DESCRIPTION

Lee Krahenbuhl - The Kings have advanced to the finals after a victory over the Blackhawks at the United Center. They had been battling Chicago for some time and finally came out on top in overtime for a 5-4 victory. The Kings got their first Stanley Cup two years ago and now they are vying for another. Even so, the very talented team (with Drew Doughty, Justin Williams, Anze Kopitar) recognizes that the Blackhawks have been very worthy opponents. The team captain for the Kings even said of Chicago, “you look across the hall, the reason they’ve done it is the way their team is built. I think we’re built in a very similar manner, in the sense that we’ve had a group of guys that have been together. I can’t stress that enough.” Brown also noted that they probably wouldn’t have had a shot at the Stanley two years ago if Chicago wasn’t eliminated by Phoenix in the first round in 2012. It was a nod to the skill of their opponent before they move on to battle for the cup. Player Justin Williams states the Kings are trying to earn more respect in the league and that they are on their way. William said that, “L.A. is not just a place to come and play a hockey game and work on your tan. It’s a tough loop in California right now to play. We want to put L.A. on the map, and put it significantly on the map with respect hockey.” The Kings have been successful in doing so. If not only for their Stanley Cup in 2012, certainly now after getting to the final game again. In their victory over Chicago, ten different players scored points for the Kings, demonstrating the breadth of talent for the team. It seems that the Kings are in a great position to aim for another Stanley Cup this year.
