Kachin State Day was founded on January 10th 1948 just after the Union of Burma obtained independence. Although Kachin State was and is today a very diverse region within the Union of Burma, many Kachin people feel that the establishment of Kachin State and the celebration of Kachin State Day is particularly important for them. The purpose of this community gathering is to celebrate the founding of Kachin State and to show the Kachin culture. This is also an opportunity for the Kachin Community in the UK to talk about their present situation, and their concerns and hopes for the future.
