Irina Viktorovna Chashchina

(was born on the 24th of April,

1982, in Omsk) - is an individual

rhythmic gymnast.

Chashchina was born in a Russian family and is the oldest of three children. She

started her sport career at the age

of 6 in Omsk.

Chashchina is known for her high and long leaps, her switch leap with

changing legs (almost similar to a Butterfly twist leap) was her signature leap. She has also executed reverse

illusion turns.

In childhood I went in for rhythmic gymnastics, too. I dreamt to be as good as Irina Chashchina is. I was bewitched by her performances, her technique. I considered her the best of the best.

When Irina was 26 years old, she became the deputy prefect of the Northern district

of Moscow on sports and tourism. On February 28, 2011, Chashchina was

relieved of the post and dismissed from the public civil service of the city of

Moscow "on her own initiative".
