Indiana.- Robert Indiana relocated to Indianapolis. He graduated from

Arsenal Technical High School. Later Robert Indiana moved to New York City in 1954

- In New York City in 1954 Robert Indiana joined the Indiana pop art movement using distinctive imagery on commercial art. Robert Indiana called this “Sculptural Poems”.

- Robert Indiana is now 81 years old and still painting for the style of art that made him famous.

• Robert Indiana went to Bates college. He was pleased to present The Indiana Hartley Elegies award in recognition of Robert Indiana’s and Marsden Hartley’s ties and the Indiana statue as American artisit’s.

• In is 1914-1915 paintings of the “German Officer” paintings, created after the death of the Indiana young soldier Karl von Freyburg, a devastating event in Hartley’s and Indiana’s life.

• Indiana unites military insignia and geometric references to Maine, America, war, and other Indiana historical events to create a series of symbolic portraits.

• In 1962, Eleanor Ward’s Stable Gallery hosted Robert Indiana’s first New York solo exhibition.
