IGOR KONONOV

The pride and role model of all Sterlitamak boys

Citizens of Sterlitamak are great sport-lovers. One of the most popular kind of sport in my city is speedway especially ice racing.

Speedway is for strong and brave men and Igor Kononov is a real star for all boys of our city and their parents.

Igor is a vice world champion, a champion of Russia in individual and team racing, a junior golden medalist of Europe.

Igor was born in Sterlitamak on 26 April, 1987. Speedway is a family tradition of the Kononovs. Igor’s father Aleksandr Mikhailovich was a talented racer too.

It was he who brings his 12-year-old son to this sport. Since then the only aim of Igor has been “to race and to win”.

“When I step to ice”, Igor says, “my main feeling is a desire for victory”.

When the racer is asked if he is afraid, Igor replied that there are no fearless people. By the way, Kononov is considered to be one of the bravest racers.

“There is very serious competition in the championship. Of course, everybody wants to win the race.

Sometimes I have to risk seriously. But I get the result. I always set the highest goals.

Can it be otherwise?”

Now Igor is only 26. He competes both in

summer and in winter. We believe that his main

victories are in the future.
