AN ADDRESS BY THE GOVERNOR OF EKITI STATE, DR. KAYODE FAYEMI AT THE GRAND FINALS OF THE

1ST EKITI STATE/NIGERIA DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION (NDIC) TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

HELD IN ADO-EKITI ON FRIDAY, 30TH SEPTEMBER 2011

PROTOCOLS

I am highly delighted to be part of the grand finale of the Table

Tennis competition amongst players from various Local

Governments and tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. Today’s

occasion is very unique in the history of Table Tennis in the State

because this the first time a corporate body will be sponsoring a

competition of this magnitude.

I salute the pioneering effort of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance

Corporation (NDIC) for this gesture. I particularly commend the

management of the Corporation for associating with the

Government to drive a sports revolution in the State.

The competition, I believe, had thrown up new talents to

represent not only the State but also the nation in future

competitions within and outside the country. Let me again

emphasize the commitment of this administration to sports

development in all its ramifications. However, of

major concern to us is the grassroots sports activism where all

nooks and crannies of the state would be hot bed for sporting

activities. The provision of sports Equipment in our schools is a

deliberate policy option in this regard. We are also working on our

Sports Academy to produce professionals in all sporting fields

Let me seize this opportunity to call on all individual and

corporate sports lovers to partner with the State Government in

complementing our desire to make Ekiti State topmost on sports

issues.

The advantages of sports are too numerous for us to ignore.

Apart from its conventional advantage as a uniting tool among

Nations, it improves significantly on our physical, mental and

intellectual alertness besides curbing youth restiveness.

I like to commend the organizers of this programme, particularly

the sponsor, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and

the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by the participants which

have jointly made the competition a huge success. I wish you all

journey mercies back to your various destinations.
