Matinic Ooze. It is a flat bottom, comprised of ooze and shells, that makes off to the eastward of theHaddock Ledge and Shoal and bears about S. from Matinic. They have been offered different namesfrom the fishermen, though the Haddock Shoal and the Ooze are really parts of a single ground. mud holes. It extends NE. about 4 miles, nearly to Roaring Bull Ledge, and it is ? mile wide. Thereare actually strong tidal currents here, the flood being NE., the ebb SW. Monhegan Southeast Ground. This ground lies SE from Monhegan Island, the center faraway 12miles. This is certainly nearly circular, 3 miles in diameter. One more of the same name is situated 26 miles S 1? E from Monhegan. It has a 49 fathom shoal andthe species and seasons are much the same as about the other grounds from the name. This isprobably the soil known to other vessel captains as Toothaker Ridge.

Monhegan Outer Sou'Sou'West. This ground is SSW from Monhegan Light. the center distant 9miles It is 4 miles NNE, SSW and very long and about 2 miles wide, and it has 45 fathoms aroundthe shoalest part however the depths generally are from 60 to 80 fathoms. The bottom typically isgravelly and quite level. The ground is fished by both boats and vessels using hand lines and trawls.

This is a cod terrain in spring and fall. In summer season hake are abundant here, and halibut arequite plentiful in July on the shoalest part.

Old Jeffrey. An exceedingly good ground. It is said that better fishing might be had here than on anyother terrain of its size from the vicinity. Monhegan Traditional western Ground. This is a somewhat extensive ground telling lies about 4? along way WSW from Monhegan Island. The depths range from 22 to 45 fathoms. Its length is 4 or 5miles, and its very best breadth is 2 miles on the eastern portion, gradually narrowing westward toabout 1 mile. The ground operates NW and SE. Pollock are found here in October and September. Itis fished yourself trawls, gill and lines nets. Marks: Bring houses on New Harbor over the brightwhite cliff on Pemaquid 6 miles from New Harbor.

Damaged Ground. The heart bears nearly S. from Pumpkin Tropical island (at entrance to BoothbayHarbor), distant 7 miles. It extends 4 mls in an ENE. and WSW direction and has an average width of1? miles. Depths are from 35 to 50 fathoms with a bottom of stones and mud. Cod are taken on thispage the year around; hake from June to September. Cusk also are found here all of the year in 40fathoms depths. It can be fair herring terrain on spring evenings.

Great Ledge. Twenty miles S. from Cape Newagen. It is actually about 4 mls long, SSW. and NNEand from 1 to 2 miles wide. There exists said to be a shoal of 14 fathoms on the northern edge andanother of 22 fathoms near the centre. These are both cracked and rocky, but the main part of thesoil, having depths of 30 to 45 fathoms, is mostly made from sand. is quite degree, and slopes slowlytoward the edge. Potato Patch. Three miles WNW. from Monhegan. A round nubble about 14 mile in diameter, ofrazor-sharp, rocky bottom experiencing about 40 fathoms over it. Cusk and cod are taken on thehake and shoal from the muddy edges regarding this.

This shoal, called Mosers Ledge, is broken and rocky butslopes gradually for the SW., reaching 48 fathoms, with a base of gravel and mud on the deepestpart. The ground is approximately 2 miles long NE. and SW. and about 1 distance wide. It isexcellent ground for haddock and cod in the spring and for herring in June and other leading-schooling species of fish In their season. Mackerel occur in late August and September. It is alobster ground the year around.

Johns Go Ground. About 4 miles SSE. from Pemaquid Point. Depths are from 25 to 15 fathoms over asandy bottom, setting up a good cod floor in April and may even. The ground is of circular formabout 1 mile in diameter. Hand lines and trawls, along with some gill nets, are used on the beachsand shoal.

White Island Ground. This is ESE from White Tropical isle, from which its inner edge is remote ?mile and the outer edge about 4 miles. Of triangular outline, it is broadest at the outer conclusion. Itis very broken and uneven and has depths from 6 to 30 fathoms. About the shoal it is sharp, brokenrocks, though in some places the base is gravelly. The tiny, rocky spots are known by other names,such as Browns Head Ground (a herring ground in June), where the anglers catch a few rock cod.The soft sandy bottom furnishes excellent fares of haddock in June and might. "Bobber trawling" isthe common method used within June. This terrain is fished mostly by small vessels and sloopsmaking use of hand lines and trawls.

Steamboat Terrain. Seven miles WSW. from Monhegan Tropical island; it is 3 kilometers long, NE.and SW, and ? mile wide. Its base is broken with patches of rocks. Depths are from 25 to 50 fathoms,the shoalest 20 fathoms. This is fished by hand lines and trawls mainly by craft from New Harbor.Cod are located here the year about but are most abundant in the fall. Haddock are present all thespring and fall; hake through the summer months; pollock in the fall. Cusk are most abundant in thespring. A certain amount of lobster minn kota endura is done right here.

Inner and Outer Boutens (Bootlegs). The interior ground lies 3 miles SW. from Monhegan Island. Itis about 1 mile long. NE. and SW., by 1/4 distance wide. It has a well-defined, rocky bottom, shoalestin the center, where are 25 fathoms, sloping gradually southwest and falling off all of a sudden onthe northeast aspect to the mud in 60 fathoms around the edges. , and cusk are here the seasonaround.haddock and Cod Hake occur in summer on the dirty edges. It is a fairly good lobster floor onthe shoal. The Outer Bouten is placed ? mile SW. from the Inner, separated from using it by a deep,muddy channel. It has a modest shoal of 30 fathoms rising instantly from the surrounding dirt.seasons and Seafood of their presence are as on Inner Bouten. Minn Kota Endura on these groundsis principally by hand line and trawl. Marks: The Tripod on European Duck Island about the easternside from the big eastern mountain peak of Camden: Dark Head just out by White Head; White Headfrom the "Hole from the Wall."

Slope Ground. This floor is SSW 9 miles from Matinic: between 3 and 4 miles long NE and SW plussome 2 miles broad. The shoalest component has 35 fathoms and a rocky bottom part. From this itslopes gradually to a range of 50 fathoms over a bottom of mixed mud, rocks and gravel. Its greatestminn kota endura is for hake, using both fingers lines and trawls.

Seguin Sou'Sou'West Terrain. This ground lies SSW. from the european part of Seguin Isle, thecenter remote 4 miles. This is a rocky shoal, ? mile long by 200 yards wide, using a ? -acre shoal inthe center. Depths are 7 to 14 fathoms. This is certainly evidently a SSW continuation of the HillsideGround. It is fished by small boats for rock cod by hand-coating. Trawling is done in March for cod,and this is also a cod ground in April. It is both a small-motorboat and a vessel soil and is a lobsterground the year close to. Marks: Elwells Rock and roll touching the european side of Seguin, andFullers Rock touching the the southern part of part of Bald Go.

Seguin Ridge. This ridge is SSW. from Seguin Tropical isle, distant 5 kilometers. Four milesextended. ESE. and WSW by ? mile broad. There are a number of tiny rocky spots--hummocks of 9 to14 fathoms in depth. In general the ground has from 10 to 40 fathoms over it, except as mentioned.Cod and cusk are taken in the spring, haddock in May and June. and hake in summer. This is a goodcod floor in the fall plus a lobster ground. A few pollock are seined here in the spring. Minn KotaEndura is by hand collections, gill netting, and trawling. Marks: Pond Island Light about the easternspur of Seguin; Wooded Tag Island on Bald Head (Small Position).

Seguin Ground. This ground is SW. by S. from Seguin Island, distant about 7 miles to the center.About 4 miles very long. NE. and SW., and a little more than 2 miles wide in the widest component.There is a small hummock called Bumpers Island Ground on the upper end with depths of 13fathoms. Toward the to the south the bottom is gravelly and sloping, to ensure that on the middleand southern portions there are actually depths of 35 to 45 fathoms, even though the northernportion is mostly rocky. Cod, hake, and pollock are the principal fishes taken here and furnish someof the best fishing in this vicinity. Haddock are not common right here but are abundant around thesandy bottom for the westward in May and April. Trawl sport fishing and gill netting are done in thespring for hand and cod lining for cod and pollock in October. It is a tiny-vessel and boat groundalong with a winter lobster soil.
