General Guidelines:

•Have one Coast Guard approved life preserver on the boat for every boater.

•One’s life jacket should be appropriate for their height and weight.

•It is a good idea to have a PFD with a waterproof whistle attached.

Safety:

•Always check the buoyancy of a PFD before going out into deep water.

•The common life jackets, type III’s, are intended for recreation and will keep a conscious person afloat.

If you cannot right the boat, always stay with it, sitting on the top (or actually what

is the bottom) wearing a PFD. Signal

for help and await rescue.

When a Man Goes Overboard…

always yell, “MAN OVERBOARD”

never stop looking at the victim

shout to him, throw to him, point to him

If You Loose Sight of Him…

start a systematic search back

Always Remember…

use your head, don’t be a hero
