A Little Something-Something
I made for Naima
You’ve seen me on the Pink Pig….
In reality, we tried this a couple different ways…me riding the pig in Seattle, me screaming and cursing at traffic, me climbing out of the trunk like I just finally made it across the border, but in the end, this is the only one that came out well enough to share.
Mountain Pics
It’s no wonder why they call these areas The Smoky Mtns and The
Blue Ridge Mtns.
Smoke on the Water
When we arrived to this lake, it was getting dusk and had just finished raining. The effect on the water was incredible. This was our 2nd night camp spot. We dined, slept, and rose to
this view. If you look closely in the upper pic, the brown rocks
at the bottom of the pic are actually submerged rocks…the
water is that clear!
More lake pics
More views of the same lake. The lower shows the beautiful color of the water and also the color tainting process once the dam
opens the floodgates. Eventually the entire river is this color until the particles
settle again and back to original color. To take these 2
shots, I had climbed down sets of loose rock thru the woods
and then climbed up onto old, dilapidated bridge road
platforms. It wasn’t being up there that was scary as much
as being caught up there.
Misc River Pics
Just some different pics of different rivers. The
lower pic shows a pool that is about 10
feet deep and COLD!!
Misc Pics
Joe’s dog, Gertie, 17 years old!!! 2nd pic just shows where we were at that time…
adjacent to the Great Smoky Mtns Nat’l
Park.
Misc Pics 2
Upper pic is us driving down the one of the 9 kajillion mountain roads we explored
and Joe taking a piss. Note my understanding expression as he pees 6 inches from me. Actually took this one myself guesstimating focus, etc. (maybe theres hope yet!) 2nd is me standing on road girders overlooking Smoky Mtns. Sorry, that’s all I had to
work with at the time. If there was a pig present, I would have certainly
mounted it!!! (holy crap, bad choice of words, considering the area I’m in.) but
you get the point. Excuse the pun.
Double joke…who gets that??
Misc Pics 3While admitting that I thought the
sun position was ruining this shot, it actually improved it. The upper is one of many
dams in this area. It reminds me of something out of the first ‘Batman’ movie or maybe out of WWII Germany. Anyway, it was much larger than the pics show and had almost an eerie
ambiance to it. 2nd pic is camping breakfast of
champions….Blueberry pancakes with fresh mashed bananas mixed in, scrambled eggs, a power bar, a nectarine
or apple and homegrown tomato slices.
Misc Pics 4
A plethora of kayaks….. everywhere you turned! This
was the place to be if you were a kayaker!! Countless numbers
of boaters flowed in here, boaters of every imaginable genre…the expected dread-locked college students, the
seasoned hippie paddlers like Joe & Steve, the aged doctors,
lawyers and X-Genners with their manicured pony-tails and aging, over surgicaled trophy
wives, and everybody inbetween.
Talulla Gorge
A 900 foot drop gorge. A fantastic example of the canyons that exist
in this area of the world. In the upper pic, you can see
some of the rapids this gorge is famous
for.
Georgia Drought
Pics of the horrendous Georgia drought that
the southeast has been suffering. Notice how deep these lakes used to be and WHY they utilize floating
docks.
Country Farms
Abandoned farm houses were
EVERYWHERE. But only few were
photogenic. These qualified, but seems
that I ran into powerlines everytime
I ran around….a NIGHTMARE!!
Apple Orchards
Apple orchards in Longcreek, S.C.
They were small and not ready yet.
Fruit Thievery
Me….stealing apples from the orchard! I plucked and
crammed them in the bend of my shirt and hauled ass out of
there, dropping them as I laughed and ran away, all the
while waiting to hear some country yelling and shotgun blasts going off! Turns out,
stupid apples were pretty small and not yet ripe. After the
disappointing tasting session, they got hurled out the van
window over mountain cliffs.
Misc Pics
The top pic is one of my many, many photographic
experiments. I think it really needs
something in the center. The lower pic
is me on KP duty using sand and gravel
to wash dishes.
More Pics
Why would I take a pic of a grasshopper sucking soap, you wonder?
Maybe have something to do with the nostalgic
Pabst Blue Ribbon in the background?
Lower….lakeside music making. I played
percussion using sawed off bamboo sections of varied diameters like a
tropical Xylophone.
More Pics
One of the many back roads we explored
continuously.
Looking down a low water level river.
More Pics
The top pic is Joe’s garage. To see here…3 boats he has made/making, and the Union Jack on the wall. Remind me to tell
you about that flag.
A natural hole, you can climb down and then thru
it to the whitewater…a playground!
