Purpose- To review positioning in the different officiating
systems- Find common game situations that need
heightened awareness and identify what we should be looking for as officials
PositioningWhy is this important?- Puts officials in the best field of vision- Helps keep officials out of play- Aids in ‘selling’ a call- Don’t want to end up like this

Awareness- What does good awareness help with?
- prevent altercations- Positioning is also key as officials must hustle and get between
players to help ensure something doesn’t break out. - Covering for partners
AwarenessSplit into (2) groups, referees and linesman
- Take the next 8-10 minutes and go from the start of the game through the end and identify situations where heightened awareness is needed.

- In warmups, any equipment violations
- Victim in any cheap penalties throughout the game
- D coming past the top of the circles during an altercation
- Post game handshake-make sure good sportsmanship is adhered to
Linesman
- Covering for your partner
- Goaltender coming out for the extra attacker at the end of the game
- Player coming out of the penalty box
- Post game handshake, keep eyes on players who might have been on edge during the game.
