Oakland Nature Preserve 03.03 Take a HikeBy: Victoria E.

I took a hike on the Oakland Nature Preserve. It has a 2/3 mi. long board walk that leads to Lake Apopka as well as numerous other trails under the tree canopies.

Some awesome things I saw on my hike

• I got to see a lot of awesome things on my hike. There was a wide variety of plants and animals as well as flowers and trees, the scenery was always changing the deeper into the forest I went.

I had a great time hiking the trail!

Equipment I brought with me on my hike a water bottle, for when I got thirsty and also a protein bar incase I got hungry (which I did) P.S. I saved the trash and threw it a way in a garbage can. I wore some comfortable sneakers, pants and a hoodie to keep me warm, it was a bit chilly the day I hiked.

Reflection I had a great time hiking the nature trial. I saw lots of wildlife. I saw squirrels, lots of different kinds of birds, and I saw a small bunny. I could hear a lot more then I could see, I heard lots of bugs and frogs, I also heard a ton of birds that I couldn’t see, I even heard an owl. The scenery changed as you hike the trail, in the beginning its large oaks and pines but as you walk further down the boardwalk it turns into more of a wetland forest. The supplies I brought were adequate for the hike, I was comfortable and had enough water. What I enjoyed mist from the hike was the separation from the rest of the world I felt, I liked being alone, and the quiet, with just the sounds of nature. I’ve hiked before in North Carolina, it is a lot different then hiking in Florida, the trials I was hiking were on mountains and they were very steep, unlike the flat trails in Florida.

The Preserve was right next to a large farm that had many interesting animals, I had fun taking pictures of them and wanted to share!
