“By Faith… or Fear?”

Noah’s Story… Our Story

A Sermon Series based on Genesis 6-9

“By Faith… We are Provided for

and Protected”

Genesis 7 May 11, 2014

In the story of Noah, in Genesis 6-9, we learn that, by faith…

We are Not Alone

We are Provided for and Protected

We are Redeemed

God's Covenant Promise is Realized…

Noah stepped out in faith, not knowing exactly what he and his family would be going through, but trusting in God no matter what! Noah did everything exactly as God commanded him. Genesis 7:1-5 The Lord said to Noah, “Go into the ark with your whole household, because among this generation I’ve seen that you are a moral man. From every clean animal, take seven pairs, a male and his mate; and from every unclean animal, take one pair, a male and his mate; and from the birds in the sky as well, take seven pairs, male and female, so that their offspring will survive throughout the earth. In seven days

from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights. I will wipe off from the fertile land every living thing that I have made.” Noah did everything the Lord commanded him. God loved ALL people, but He saved only the righteous! And to preserve ALL creatures he commanded Noah to take a male and female of each type of creature on earth to be saved!! Noah Trusted in the Lord!! An important question in the lives of believers: “Can God Be Trusted?” When the waters rise… when the circumstances in life look dangerous, disastrous, uncertain… Can God Be Trusted? God extends provision and protection to all His faithful people! That provision and protection comes through faith in Jesus Christ! Genesis 7:23 God wiped away every living thing that was on the fertile land--from human beings to livestock to crawling things to birds in the sky. They were wiped off the earth. Noah and those with him in the ark were left. _______________________________ For Personal or Group Reflection 1. Try to imagine all that Noah and his family went through in the building of the Ark. What questions or fears might they have felt? 2. What do you think they thought when they first entered the ark with a parade of all those animals? When they heard the first rain? When it continued for forty days and forty nights? 3. Have you ever been in a large and dangerous storm? What was it like? How did you feel? Were you trusting God? 4. Express your thoughts/feelings about God wiping out all humans on earth except Noah and his family? Why was it necessary? 5. What would you need to change in your life to have a reputation like Noah’s? 6. What is something difficult that God is asking you to do? What obstacles stand in your way? How does God’s promise to Noah help you overcome any obstacles in your own life?
