Noah’s Story… Our Story

A Sermon Series based on Genesis 6-9

“By Faith… We Are Not Alone”

Genesis 6:5-22

In the story of Noah, in Genesis 6-9, we learn that, by faith… -- We are Not Alone… -- We are Provided for and Protected… -- We are Redeemed… -- God's Covenant Promise is Realized… _________________________________________________ There was a real contrast between Noah and the rest of the world… Genesis 6:5-9 The Lord saw that humanity had become thoroughly evil on the earth and that every idea their minds thought up was always completely evil. The Lord regretted making human beings on the earth, and he was heartbroken. So the Lord said, “I will wipe off of the land the human race that I’ve created: from human beings to livestock to the crawling things to the birds in the skies, because I regret I ever made them.” But as for Noah, the Lord approved of him. These are Noah’s descendants. In his generation, Noah was a moral and exemplary man; he walked with God…

With ALL of humanity being thoroughly evil, the Lord approved of Noah (v. 8) Noah was a moral and exemplary man; he walked with God (v. 9)

Genesis 6:13-16 … I am now about to destroy them along with the earth, so make a wooden ark. Make the ark with nesting places and cover it inside and out with tar. This is how you should make it: four hundred fifty feet long, seventy-five feet wide, and forty-five feet high. Make a roof for the ark and complete it one foot from the top. Put a door in its side. In the hold below, make the second and third decks … You will go into the ark together with your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives. God promised provision and protection … But I will set up my covenant with you. God promised a covenant relationship that would last forever… Noah did everything exactly as God commanded him. Noah’s faith was evident by his obedience, patience, and perseverance. BY FAITH, WE ARE NOT ALONE… GOD IS WITH US! _______________________________ For Personal or Group Reflection 1. Reflect on the similarities or differences between the culture in Noah’s day compared with today’s culture. (vs. 5-6) 2. In vs. 8-9, what do you learn about Noah’s character? 3. Was Noah this way because of God’s favor or because of Noah’s actions? 4. Reflect on what Noah would have been thinking when God told him to build an ark. Describe a time when God called you to do something that seemed impossible or “foolish to our culture”. 5. How is obedience related to faith in this story? In your life? 6. Adopt-a-Garden

Can you keep our church yard looking beautiful? Sign up in the foyer to adopt a small garden area that you will keep weed-free during the growing season. Individuals and families of all ages are invited to participate.

Outdoor Adventures

North Creek Forest Restoration Event

Saturday, May 17

On Saturday, May 17, we have an opportunity to give back to God's creation. In our Outdoor Adventure trips, we emphasize taking the time to enjoy the beautiful creation around us. North Creek Forest, just off I-405 near the Bothell-UW campus needs volunteers to clean up the trash and restore this area to the natural beauty God intended.

Cost: Free

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours

Meet at the church at 9:45 AM and we will carpool to the site. Bring work clothes, gloves, and some gardening tools. Food and drink will be provided.

Vacation Bible School 2014

June 23 - 27

This summer, our children will caravan through the desert learning about Moses and the Israelites and how when times were tough, they could always trust in the Lord. The children will learn that they can trust God in their daily lives too.

WHEN: June 23 - 27

TIME: 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon

Cost: $30 if registered by May 12

$35 if registered on or after May 13

GRADES: Pre-School (3+ years) - 6th Grade
