Matthew 5:43-45

You have heard it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Matthew 5:46-48

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even the pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Jesus calls us to live DIFFERENTLY than the world around us.

Nobody has to TEACH us to get even.

The purpose of the law was not to define a necessary response but to LEGISLATE justice.

Two WRONGS don’t make it RIGHT

The scriptures tell us elsewhere to RESIST the devil and FLEE temptation, while here the call is “do not resist”.

Minimally means don’t seek PAYBACK. In addition there may be times we willingly suffer wrong for Christ.

To strike the cheek was an INSULT.

Jesus says to do more than what is EXPECTED or REQUIRED of you.

Scripture is the best INTERPRETER of scripture.

When to resist and when not to; when to give, and when not to; must be done on a CASE by CASE basis.

Love is a CHOICE

Lay a spiritual FOUNDATION before the need is there so that when it comes you already know how to live from your relationship with Jesus.
