•There is a dire need for all to tighten their grip on God’s word.•Few have even read the whole Bible! How can you know how to live, if you haven’t even read it?•We must realize what God’s word can do for us.

What Does God’s Word Do For YOU?

• By it, you can be born again. 1 Pet. 1:23

• It is the cause of growth in the Christian life. 1 Pet. 2:2

• It sets us free from sin. Jn. 8:32; 17:17

• It keeps us from sin. Mt. 4:4; Ps. 119:9-11

• It’s the basis of answered prayer. Jn. 15:7

• It’s the basis of success and prosperity. Josh. 1:8; Ps. 1:1-2

What Does God’s Word Do For YOU?

• It’s the means to an abundant life. Jn. 6:63

• It guides us through life. Ps. 119:105

• It contains all things for life and godliness. 2 Pet. 1:3-4

• It’s a source of joy and delight. Jer. 15:16

• It teaches us how to interact with other Christians. Col. 3:16

• It builds us up & gives us an inheritance! Acts 20:32

• It equips us for service to God. 2 Tim. 3:17

grip on God’s word.

The First Grip is HEAR!

• The Bible itself tells us how we can get a grip on it.

• Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

• Luke 11:28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

• Through preaching, bible classes, Bible on tape, etc.

The Second Grip Is READ!

• One must read the Bible on their own.

• Nehemiah 8:8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

• 1 Timothy 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

• Have ye not read????? Mt. 22:31 7x’s

The Third Grip is STUDY!

• Ezra 7:10 (ESV) For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

• 2 Timothy 2:15 (DRB) Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

The Fourth Grip is Memorize!

• Psalm 119:9-11 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

• Isaiah 51:7

The Fifth Grip is Meditate!

• “Meditation is thinking through the implications for applications.”– You let these things revolve in your mind, to

look at it from all different aspects.

• Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. See Ps. 1:1-3

Get a Grip!

• With a good grip on God’s word you can live and grow spiritually, and have opportunity for all of God’s blessings. Col. 1:9-12

• Let’s get a good grip on God’s word.

• Become a new person in Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17– Hear & Believe the gospel. Rom. 1:16-17– Repent of sin. Acts 3:19– Confess your faith in Jesus. Acts 8:37– Baptism puts you in Christ where there’s eternal

salvation. Gal. 3:27; 2 Tim. 2:10; Acts 22:16
