Third Commandment:

REMEMBER TO KEEP

HOLY THE SABBATH DAY

(Exodus 20:8)

Page 2: Third commandment

The Sabbath is for the Lord and is set apart for the praise of God

Jesus explained that the Sabbath is made for man and not man for the Sabbath.

Adam and Eve, right after the 6th day, were commanded by God to take rest.

Our first day of the week is also Sunday which is for resting.

NOT TO BE EQUATED with

Saturday.Like Jesus, before starting His ministry, He retreated

in the desert for forty days to pray and fast.

SIN AGAINST THE THIRD

COMMANDMENT:

1) Requiring others to perform servile work. The Christian allow his servants and cattles to

rest on Sunday. (Exodus 10:10)

Page 15: Third commandment

2) By carelessness about attendance in

public worship. “What folly, remarks St. Francis of Sales,

to turn day into night and night into

day, and neglect one’s duties for

frivolous amusement”

Page 16: Third commandment

3) Indulging in diversions which are

over fatiguing or which are sinful

nature. St. Augustine opined “It is better that one is

occupied with needle of filed-work

on Sunday than indulge in vice”
