THINGS WE LEARN FROM THE
PARABLE OF THE TALENTS
MATTHEW 25:14-30
Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
OVERVIEW
One master has three servants and entrusts talents to them.
The masters leaves on a trip and the servants use their talents.
And returns to see what they have done with their talents.
1. WE WORK HARD
v16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.
v17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
Hebrews 6:10God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
2. GOD GAVE US WHAT WE NEED TO SERVE HIM
v14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
2 Peter 1:3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
3. OUR SITUATION IN LIFE IS NOT THE SAME
15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
4. WE WORK FOR GOD, NOT FOR OURSELVES
18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
Galatians 1:10Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
5. WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE
v19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.
Romans 14:12So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
CONCLUSION
Loss of Reward v30 And throw that worthless servant
outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Reward V21, 23 His master replied, ‘Well done, good
and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
