Wayside
• Mark 4:14 The sower soweth the word.
• Mark 4:15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
Wayside
• In the plains of Palestine you may see miles of verdure without a fence, yet with different ownership. Instead of fences are wayside paths, narrow and hard trodden. On these, broadcasts sowing (planting) some seed will fall.
• The seed lay hard and round upon this smooth, hard surface, and the watchful birds, as soon as the farmer’s back was turned, cuaght at them, and they were gone!
Where the word is sown
• Heard only, just with the ear. The word lies on the surface of their hearts. When truth is heard and not fully received and practiced, it will sooner or later, lose its power over the heart!
• Acts 24:25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
Where the word is sown• Hebrews 3:8 Harden not your hearts, as in the
provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
• Hebrews 3:15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
• Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Immediately comes Satan
• And takes the message away that was sown or planted in them!
• The heart or mind is the spiritual soil in which the sower sows the word of God.
• The devil recognizes that the word of God produces faith, hence, he tries to snatch it away as quickly as possible.
Immediately comes Satan
• The human heart is the battleground!
• Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Immediately comes Satan
• James 1:21 Therefore put away all filthiness and extreme wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
• James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
How does Satan take away the word which was sown or planted?
• He uses is servants to do this!
• 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
How does Satan take away the word which was sown or planted?
• He uses man’s own appetite!
• Galatians 5:16-17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would.
He uses man’s own appetite!• 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
• 1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
• 1 John 2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides forever.
