THE NARROW ROAD TO SALVATION

{ Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the

Father except through me.” – John 14:6 }

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning.3 Through him all things were made;

without him nothing was made that has been made.

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:1-18

Page 8: The Narrow Road to Salvation

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.

7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.

8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 1:1-18

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God –

13 Children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

John 1:1-18

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”

16 From the fullness of his grace, we have all received one blessing after another.

John 1:1-18

17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.

John 1:1-18

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?Take a look at John 1:1,2 -–

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning.

Jesus Christ is the Word; and he is God, sent to Earth in the flesh. Before he even entered the frailty of a human body, Jesus Christ was seated at the right hand of his Father, in Heaven: before the creation of the world.

WHY DID JESUS COME TO US?John 3:16 - 21

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

WHY DID JESUS COME TO US?

19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.

WHY DID JESUS COME TO US?So, according to God’s Word – which is completely true and trustworthy, Jesus left the glory and splendor of Heaven; and he did this so that he might save an already condemned (guilty) world.

He knew that humans could not enter Heaven – not in the darkened state that we are all born into (being found condemned by default, due to our sin nature). And so, Jesus came down to us. He loved us so very much, that HE came to US. That is a pure, unconditional love: a perfect love, for God IS love.

I BELIEVE NOW, BUT WHAT NEXT?

Jesus shows us what we ought to do to be saved, as he hung on the cross:

Luke 23:39 – 4339 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at

him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear

God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?

41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

I BELIEVE NOW, BUT WHAT NEXT?

The second criminal, hanging next to Jesus; the one who rebuked the first, received salvation from the Lord. And we can too!

1 He had faith in God, and in who Jesus was.2 He acknowledged his wrong doing; he was

repentant.3 He turned to Jesus and asked him for forgiveness.

And because of those three things, Jesus granted him Salvation. And if you follow this example, the Lord Jesus Christ will also save you.
