English offers readers a glimpse into each of the 114 chapters of the Holy Quran to get to the core of Islam.Five centuries after the Prophet’s death in 632, when Ottomans, Mughals, and others ruled a vast swath of territory in Asia, North Africa, and parts of Europe, Islam experienced its golden age, achieving tremendous depth in all spheres of life, including technology, medicine, and language. But in recent years, Islam has come under attack. Now, more than ever, Muslims need to reaffirm faith, beginning with the most fundamental of truths: we are all God’s children, born equal and with dignity. The focus of this book is on educating Muslims, particularly youths, on the core tenets of Islam. These verses have been selected to help readers understand the true spirit of the faith and to clarify what the Prophet preached during his lifetime: the oneness of God; responsible living; fulfilling one’s duties, obligations, and promises; showing charity and kindness; and accountability to God. Not only will this book bring people together in tolerance and mutual respect, but it will also provide therapeutic reading that heals the spirit and uplifts the soul. Excellent Addition with Focus on Beginners, Youth and the Curious. . By Faroque Ahmed Khan on May 17, 2016 Format: Paperback For Muslims, Quran represents the word of God, transmitted by Archangel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH.) The original revelations were in Arabic, a language written and spoken by approximately only twenty percent of the 1.6 billion Muslims. The remaining eighty percent of the Muslims depend on translations by individuals and scholars. Quran is not a 'regular' book; its contents revealed over a twenty-three year period, addresses the issues facing the community in the seventh century. Often repeated verses in different sections, and nontraditional

arrangement of chapters can present a challenge for the beginners. The author has addressed this by precluding the repeated verses, and also refrained from adding any personal comments. The Quranic messages in my view clarify the following three most frequent issues about my faith: A. The Most common question raised here in the US, "Is Islam a new religion?" Unarguably this is laid to rest when one looks at the index of this book. There are over thirty references attributed to prophets, Abraham and Moses, twenty to Noah and twelve to Jesus while Prophet Muhammad is mentioned in four places. Islam is a continuation of the Abrahamic faiths of Judaism and Christianity. B. The role of women: Chapter 33 verse 35 addresses this question and clearly points to the equality of men and women, not once but eleven times. Moreover, Mary is the name of chapter 19, mother of Prophet Jesus. C. Terrorism: Several verses emphasize the sanctity of life, prohibition of suicide and emphasize that, "If you save one life it is as if you saved the entire humanity.particularlyappreciatedtheauthorinplacingthechronologicalorderoftherevelationsandthelocationofrevelationnexttothetitleofthechapter.Forinstance,thefirstfiveversesofchapter96representtheearliestinitialrevelations.AsonestudiestheQuraningreaterdepthonerealizestheunderlyingessenceoftherevelationsevolvedovertimedependingontheconditionsandacceptanceofmonotheisticfaith.Insummary,thisversionofQuranisavaluableaddition,anditcertainlywillhelpthebeginnerinunderstandingthemessageoftheQuraninanunderstandablecontemporaryEnglish.Andhopefully,itwouldencouragethereadertoexplorefurther,reflect,andbecomebetterinformed.--InshaAllah--Godwilling. 5.0 out of 5 stars

This is a much needed rendition of the Quran’s translation By Azher Quader on May 19, 2016 Format: Paperback Verified Purchase This is a much needed rendition of the Quran’s translation, where selected verses with their best translations have been put together as a text in continuity bypassing some of the repetitious verses. One has to remember that the original mode of delivery of the Quran was oral and therefore of necessity was repetitious to emphasize and reiterate ideas and themes that were being taught to the recipients. When the Quran is being read now in written form the need for such repetition is obviously not present.

Dr. Asad has picked up the verses from the Quran in this compilation which advance the main themes in an uninterrupted way. The essential argument of the Quran is therefore highlighted for the reader who can more easily capture its significance and logic. Dr. Asad has also used more than one source for translations, thereby having the flexibility to pick the one which best carries the meaning of a particular verse. Although this compromises the continuity of style to some extent, yet the more important area of providing correct meaning and understanding for the Quranic script is preserved. This book should be a very helpful aid in the study of the Quran by all those who seek to simply read it and obtain a better understanding of Islam but also to help those wishing to get inspired by its guidance and lead lives transformed by belief and action. A copy of this translation deserves to be in the collection of every serious student of Quran and in the possession of every academic/community library. 4.0 out of 5 stars

Asad recent book, a compilation of Holy Quran is an attempt to put forward the essence and spirit of Islam, which teaches followers to adopt the middle path of moderation, tolerance, and respect for other faith and belief system. My perspective of present Islam that is labeled sometimes radical and political, which has dampened the softer, gentler and Kindler narrative of Islam and this book, in my opinion, has succeeded in erasing misconception of Islam.
