The Rebellion of the Nations
(Psa 2:1-2 NIV) Why do the nations conspire and the
peoples plot in vain? 2The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his
Anointed One.
• The nations plot and kings conspire against God and His Messiah
• They rebel against God• We too rebel against God. We go
our own way rather than God’s way
Response of the Father
(Psa 2:4-6 NIV) The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.5Then he rebukes them in his anger and
terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6"I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill."
• God responds with laughter• God mocks rebellion because it
has no place with Him• God is in complete control of
the universe • God rules over all the world –
He rules it all
The Rise of God’s Chosen
Leader(Psa 2:6-8 NIV) "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." 7I will proclaim the decree
of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son ; today I have become your Father. 8 NIV) Ask
of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your
possession.
• God will give His anointed one sovereignty over all the earth
• God will allow everything to be under His possession and authority
• Jesus is indeed the fulfillment of this promise
• Jesus will one day return and set up His eternal Kingdom
The Righteous Call
(Psa 2:11-12 NIV) Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a
moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
• God is calling us to serve Him with fear (reverence)
• God is calling us to serve Him with rejoicing
• God is calling us to serve Him with trembling
Challenge
(Phil 2:12 NIV) Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my
presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
