Notes for Yves Saint Laurent Poster
- Attractive young woman who appears to be in early twenties. The product targets women between the ages of 18-25
- Hair is scraped back. Woman appears more masculine than feminine- Rule of thirds used, drawn to woman’s face- Direct mode of contact used to address audience- High key lighting used, everything in frame is visible. The lighting makes
everything seem upbeat and energetic- Red lips could symbolise woman is sexy and cleavage of woman is visible to
emphasise her sexiness- Appears that woman is unbuttoning jacket. Shows she is naughty, sexy,
provocative - Dressed in black blazer. Low angle shot is also used, to show she is powerful
and appears dominant. The colour black also represents power and authority. The blazer seems androgynous. Poster subverts to normal representations of women
- Low angle shot is used, target audience are looking up to her. Could aspire to be like her
- ‘Elle’ means ‘she’, colour is pink (text). Feminine- Serif style writing is used, also feminine- ‘Girly’ colours such as gold and pink are the colours of the product - Woman on poster is not stereotypically feminine, but neither are modern
women
