DESCRIPTION

These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: • he will take your sons and appoint them

to his chariots and to be his horsemen, and to run before his chariots; and some to plow his ground and to reap his harvest,

• He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.

• He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his courtiers.

• He will take one-tenth of your flocks,

• and you shall be his slaves.

For I know my transgressions,

and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you alone, have I sinned,

and done what is evil in your sight,

so that you are justified in your sentence

and blameless when you pass judgment.

(Psalm 51:3-4)

But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like.

(James 1:22-24)
