It has been said, “Let us men not just be men, but let us be MEN OF GOD,

and let us not just be women, but WOMEN OF GOD.”

Do you today want to be a mighty man or woman of God?

What did God stir up in the life of Moses to make him

the mighty man he became? Will this work in our lives as well?

It has been said, “Let us men not just be men, but let us be MEN OF GOD,

and let us not just be women, but WOMEN OF GOD.”

Do you today want to be a mighty man or woman of God?

What did God stir up in the life of Moses to make him

the mighty man he became? Will this work in our lives as well?

This day for Moses started out as a very normal day. Like most of Moses’ days

in his 40 years in the desert, it was likely to be a run of the mill day and

with no real outlook of much happening. The sun rose, the sheep

grazed. But this will be an extraordinary day, for this barren landscape turns out to be a divine

location for a visitation of God.

Exodus 3:1 NET Now Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side

of the desert and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

Moses is about to have fellowship with God Almighty. Before this day

is over God is going to reveal to Moses His plan and purpose for his life and it is a grand plan and has a

great purpose.

1. Any ordinary day becomes an extraordinary day, when God steps on the scene. 2. Any ordinary person can become an extraordinary person, when the Lord God is in their lives. 3. And any ordinary church can become extraordinary church, when God becomes its power!

THE DIVINE APPONTMENTExodus 3:2 NET The angel of the LORD

appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked —

and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!

THE DIVINE APPONTMENTExodus 3:2 NET The angel of the LORD

There was no real greatness in Moses. But when the common is touched by the

Divine, then the common becomes uncommon. God is pleased to use

average, ordinary people. You do not have to be the smartest or the most talented, those qualities often hinder one from looking to God. God gets much more glory when an average

believer allows Him to fill them and use them.

Now hear this: If you promise to live a dedicated

Christian life, to be faithful, to become a disciple of Jesus,

to read your Bible and pray and forsake sin, there will be a lot of ordinary days, but there will also be many times when

the bush (your inner spirit) will burn with fire!

And it is a great feeling!

the bush (your inner spirit) will burn with fire!

And it is a great feeling!

Moses was glad to hear that God had not forgotten His people, and was

coming down to deliver them. But he was not as thrilled when he

heard that God wanted to give him the job of being the leader!

Moses wanted the job done, but did not want to do the job.

Exodus 3:3 NET So Moses thought, "I will turn aside to see this amazing sight. Why does the bush not burn up?" 4 When the LORD saw that he

had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and

said, "Moses, Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."

had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and

said, "Moses, Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."

In verse 4 Moses said, “Here I am.” He is not the only one who said that.

Isaiah did too, but he said, “Here I am, send me.”

BUT, Moses said, ‘Here I am, who, me?’

‘Can’t you send someone else?’

THE DIVINE ANNONCEMENTExodus 3:5 NET God said, "Do not

approach any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, for the place

where you are standing is holy ground." 6 He added, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Then Moses hid his face, because he

was afraid to look at God.

Notice these verbs: seen, heard, know.

7 The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are

in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of

their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

When I could not go to Him, He came to me!

What a beautiful Old Testament picture of the gospel this is. Moses was glad to hear that God had not forgotten His

people, and was coming down to deliver them.

But he was not as thrilled when he heard that God wanted to give him the

job of being the leader!

And there are many like that in the church today, they are glad for all that God is doing in the church, as long as they do not have to do the

work. Moses wanted the job done, but did

not want to do the job.

not want to do the job.

THE DIVINE ASSGNMENTThe rest of chapters 3 and 4 are full of

Moses excuses for why he is not the right man for the job.

1. I have no ability.2. I have no message.3. I have no authority.4. I have no eloquence.5. I have no inclination! I do not want to do this!

God answered every excuse. And there is also a New Testament

answer to each.

“I have no ability”

"Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh,

or that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"

Maybe you are being called by God to do something big,

and you are saying, “Who am I to do such a thing?”

2 Peter 1:3 NET I can pray this because his divine power has bestowed on us

everything necessary for life and godliness through the rich knowledge of the one who called us by his own

glory and excellence.

God says, “I will be with you!” See, I’ve given you everything you need

by your gaining knowledge of Me. How do we obtain this knowledge if not

from His Word? May I reinforce this idea by referring to the Apostle Paul’s

2nd letter to Timothy?

2 Timothy 3:16 NET Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for

teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17

that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every

good work. Where God guides, He provides; where He directs, He protects; where He sends, He extends!

“I have no message”

your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' —

what should I say to them?"

"I AM that I AM." And he said,

“I AM ” is the most powerful name of God there is. The Eternally Existent One, past, present, and future. Jesus is the great I AM .

He said, before Abraham was, I AM . a. To those still in the dark,

Jesus says, “I am the light.”b. To those still hungering for something they

do not have, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.”

c. To those in need of guidance, Jesus says, “I am the way.”

Our message today is the Gospel, the Good News which includes all the “I

Am” statements Jesus made. Mark 16:15 NET He said to them, "Go into

all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 The one who

believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will

be condemned.

“I have no authority”

Exodus 4:1 NET Moses answered again,

"And if they do not believe me or pay attention to me, but say,

'The LORD has not appeared to you'?"

“I have no authority”

Exodus 4:1 NET Moses answered again,

"And if they do not believe me or pay attention to me, but say,

'The LORD has not appeared to you'?"

What is the NT answer to this ‘no authority’ excuse?

Matthew 28:18 NET Then Jesus came up and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and

make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the

Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Jesus Sends Us By HIS Authority!

God is saying this to us today. God uses whatever is available.

The best ability is availability!A. One day a small boy had nothing but a

sling in his hand, but God used him to slay a giant!

B. Another small boy much later had just a lunch box, but God super sized it, for He specializes in multiplying what we have for His honor and glory!

Just put what little you have into God’s hands and watch what HE can do with it!

“I have no eloquence” Exodus 4:10 NET

Then Moses said to the LORD, "O my Lord, I am not an eloquent man,

neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant,

for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue."

Did he stutter? Was he not a people person?

I doubt it, because Acts 7:22 NET says:

So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in

his words and deeds.

Exodus 4:11 NET The LORD said to him, "Who gave a mouth to man, or who makes a

person mute or deaf or seeing or blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

As Christians we have God’s Spirit to help us. Matthew 10:18 NET And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles. 19 Whenever they hand you over for trial, do not worry about how to speak or what to say, for what you

should say will be given to you at that time. 20 For it is not you speaking, but the

Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

desire and the effort — for the sake of his good pleasure — is God.

your heart to do it.
