MY SIN, MY SIN, OH THE THOUGHT!OH THE THOUGHT!

Luke 7:36-50Luke 7:36-50

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman 36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat. 37 When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. 38 Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them. 39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!”

Luke 7:36-50 (NLT)

Page 3: Luke7 36 50-my_sin

40 Then Jesus answered his thoughts. “Simon,” he said to the Pharisee, “I have something to say to you.”

   “Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied.

41 Then Jesus told him this story: “A man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. 42 But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?”

Luke 7:36-50 (NLT)

Page 4: Luke7 36 50-my_sin

43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.”

“That’s right,” Jesus said. 44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.

Luke 7:36-50 (NLT)

Page 5: Luke7 36 50-my_sin

47 “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” 48 Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49 The men at the table said among themselves, “Who is this man, that he goes around forgiving sins?”

50 And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

“Missing the mark” is a certainty…even among the most noble of people.

Confession of our failures is the first step toward forgiveness…might as well get to it.

God doesn’t expect us to fix ourselves…He is willing to do the erasing of wrongs and healing of broken hearts.

What will follow such a miracle? Deep love and an outpouring of praise!

It Is A Story With A White Hat Guys And Black Hat Girl

Simon seems to have it all…status, home and food for guests

A woman of ill-repute attends the meal, uninvited, and begins to care for Jesus

She brings expensive perfume to anoint Jesus

The ‘good guy’ dismisses Jesus as a non-prophet since he doesn’t recognize her sinfulness

Of Course Jesus Knows The Truth Of What Is Really Going On In The Room

(As He Knows What Is Really Going On In Our Lives)

It’s time for a story …a parable.

Two men owed a moneylender money.

One owes a large sum, the other a small amount.

Both men are forgiven their debt

Page 12: Luke7 36 50-my_sin

After The Story, A Question. Who Will Love The Moneylender More?

Simon, the Pharisee, can see heart of the matter when other people are the characters in a ‘story’.

He answers the question and condemns himself…”the one who has the bigger debt cancelled”

Serving Jesus With Heart And Soul… The Normal Response To Being Forgiven An Enormous Debt

She wet my feet with her tears

She wiped them with her hair

She hasn’t stopped kissing my feet

She poured perfume on my feet

It’s easy to see that she has been forgiven much…and appreciates the canceled debt

And you, Simon?

The Heroes Of The Bible Were Far From Perfect, But Confession And Repentance Resulted In Them Being

Used For God In Might Ways

Paul hated the church and was a terrorist…but God used him after he faced his sin and repented

Moses and David were murderers…but they were great at confessing and repenting

The result of such immense debts being paid? A lifetime of service and worship

― Moses… (Listen to him) --Deuteronomy 32― David --Psalm 95:6

― Paul --Ephesians 3:20,21

In This Room… Today… Sinners… Forgiven Little Or Much? ... It’s In Our Hands

Social and religious status means little

It’s all about confession and repentance

Worship will be difficult for non-confessors

Praise and service will come natural to those who have been forgiven much

Is today a good day to copy the attitude and response of the black hat lady?
