Heexperiences himself, his thoughts and feelings assomething separated from the rest... a kind ofoptical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restrictingus to our personal desires and to affection for a fewpersons nearest to us.Our task must be to free ourselves from this prisonby widening our circle of compassion to embraceall living creatures and the whole of nature in itsbeauty. 26.
