• Had heard about other Bhagats and wanted to meet God

• It was his innocence that caused God to meet him

• Asked God not Kall to take care of his worldly affairs.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਤਰਰਆ ॥ O my mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and cross over.

ਧੰਨਾ ਜਟੁ ਬਾਲਮੀਕੁ ਬਟਵਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਰ ਪਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Dhanna the farmer, and Balmik the highway robber, became Gurmukh, and crossed over. ||1||Pause||

Dhanna had heard others had met God.

ਗੋਰਬੰਦ ਗੋਰਬੰਦ ਗੋਰਬੰਦ ਸੰਰਗ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਣਾ ॥ Naam Dayv's mind was absorbed into God, Gobind, Gobind, Gobind.

ਆਢ ਦਾਮ ਕੋ ਛੀਪਰੋ ਹੋਇਓ ਲਾਿੀਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The calico-printer, worth half a shell, became worth millions. ||1||Pause||

ਬੁਨਨਾ ਤਨਨਾ ਰਤਆਰਗ ਕੈ ਪਰੀਰਤ ਚਰਨ ਕਬੀਰਾ ॥ Abandoning weaving and stretching thread, Kabeer enshrined love for the Lord's lotus feet.

ਨੀਚ ਕੁਲਾ ਜੋਲਾਹਰਾ ਭਇਓ ਗੁਨੀਯ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ A weaver from a lowly family, he became an ocean of excellence. ||1||

ਰਰਵਦਾਸੁ ਢੁਵੰਤਾ ਢੋਰ ਨੀਰਤ ਰਤਰਨ ਰਤਆਗੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ Ravi Daas, who used to carry dead cows every day, renounced the world of Maya.

ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਰਗ ਹਰਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ He became famous in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and obtained the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. ||2||

ਸੈਨੁ ਨਾਈ ਬੁਤਕਾਰੀਆ ਓਹੁ ਘਰਰ ਘਰਰ ਸੁਰਨਆ ॥ Sain, the barber, the village drudge, became famous in each and every house.

ਰਹਰਦੇ ਵਰਸਆ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਰਹ ਗਰਨਆ ॥੩॥ The Supreme Lord God dwelled in his heart, and he was counted among the devotees. ||3||

ਇਹ ਰਬਰਧ ਸੁਰਨ ਕੈ ਜਾਟਰੋ ਉਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ ਰਮਲੇ ਪਰਤਰਿ ਗਸੁਾਈਆ ਧੰਨਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

Hearing this, Dhanna the Jaat applied himself to devotional worship. The Lord of the Universe met him personally; Dhanna was so very blessed. ||4||2||

Sadh Sangath and Innocence

ਨਾਮਾ ਜੈਦੇਉ ਕੰਬੀਰੁ ਰਤਰਲੋਚਨੁ ਅਉਜਾਰਤ ਰਰਵਦਾਸੁ ਚਰਮਆਰੁ ਚਮਈਆ ॥ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਰਮਲੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਰਤ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ਜਟੁ ਸੈਣੁ ਰਮਰਲਆ ਹਰਰ ਦਈਆ ॥੭॥

Naam Dayv, Jai Dayv, Kabeer, Trilochan and Ravi Daas the low-caste leather-worker, blessed Dhanna and Sain; all those who joined the humble Saadh Sangat, met the Merciful Lord. ||7||

ਧੰਨੈ ਸੇਰਵਆ ਬਾਲ ਬੁਰਧ ॥ Dhanna served the Lord, with the innocence of a child.

ਗੋਪਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਰਤਾ ॥ O Lord of the world, this is Your lamp-lit worship service.

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਭਗਰਤ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਰਤਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ You are the Arranger of the affairs of those humble beings who perform Your devotional worship service. ||1||Pause||

ਦਾਰਲ ਸੀਧਾ ਮਾਗਉ ਘੀਉ ॥ Lentils, flour and ghee - these things, I beg of You.

ਹਮਰਾ ਿੁਸੀ ਕਰੈ ਰਨਤ ਜੀਉ ॥ My mind shall ever be pleased.

ਪਨ੍ਹੀਆ ਛਾਦਨੁ ਨੀਕਾ ॥ Shoes, fine clothes,

ਅਨਾਜੁ ਮਗਉ ਸਤ ਸੀ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ and grain of seven kinds - I beg of You. ||1||

ਗਊ ਭੈਸ ਮਗਉ ਲਾਵੇਰੀ ॥ A milk cow, and a water buffalo, I beg of You,

ਇਕ ਤਾਜਰਨ ਤੁਰੀ ਚੰਗੇਰੀ ॥ and a fine Turkestani horse.

ਘਰ ਕੀ ਗੀਹਰਨ ਚੰਗੀ ॥ A good wife to care for my home -

ਜਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਮੰਗੀ ॥੨॥੪॥ Your humble servant Dhanna begs for thesethings, Lord. ||2||4||

ਭਰਮਤ ਰਿਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਰਬਲਾਨੇ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਧੀਰੇ ॥ I wandered through countless incarnations, but mind, body and wealth never remain stable.

ਲਾਲਚ ਰਬਿੁ ਕਾਮ ਲੁਬਧ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਰਨ ਰਬਸਰੇ ਪਰਭ ਹੀਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Attached to, and stained by the poisons of sexual desire and greed, the mind has forgotten the jewel of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਰਬਿੁ ਿਲ ਮੀਿ ਲਗੇ ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਚਾਰ ਰਬਚਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਰਨਆ ॥ The poisonous fruit seems sweet to the demented mind, which does not know the difference between good and evil.

ਗੁਨ ਤੇ ਪਰੀਰਤ ਬਢੀ ਅਨ ਭਾਂਤੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਰਿਰਰ ਤਾਰਨਆ ॥੧॥ Turning away from virtue, his love for other things increases, and he weaves again the web of birth and death. ||1||

ਜੁਗਰਤ ਜਾਰਨ ਨਹੀ ਰਰਦੈ ਰਨਵਾਸੀ ਜਲਤ ਜਾਲ ਜਮ ਿੰਧ ਪਰੇ ॥ He does not know the way to the Lord, who dwells within his heart; burning in the trap, he is caught by the noose of death.

ਰਬਿੁ ਿਲ ਸੰਰਚ ਭਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੇ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਪਰਭ ਮਨ ਰਬਸਰੇ ॥੨॥ Gathering the poisonous fruits, he fills his mind with them, and he forgets God, the Supreme Being, from his mind. ||2||

ਰਗਆਨ ਪਰਵੇਸੁ ਗੁਰਰਹ ਧਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਰਧਆਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਨ ਏਕ ਮਏ ॥ The Guru has given the wealth of spiritual wisdom; practicing meditation, the mind becomes one with Him.

ਪਰੇਮ ਭਗਰਤ ਮਾਨੀ ਸੁਿੁ ਜਾਰਨਆ ਰਤਰਪਰਤ ਅਘਾਨੇ ਮੁਕਰਤ ਭਏ ॥੩॥ Embracing loving devotional worship for the Lord, I have come to know peace; satisfied and satiated, I have been liberated. ||3||

ਜੋਰਤ ਸਮਾਇ ਸਮਾਨੀ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅਛਲੀ ਪਰਭੁ ਪਰਹਚਾਰਨਆ ॥ One who is filled with the Divine Light, recognizes the undeceivable Lord God.

ਧੰਨੈ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਧਰਣੀਧਰੁ ਰਮਰਲ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਸਮਾਰਨਆ ॥੪॥੧॥ Dhanna has obtained the Lord, the Sustainer of the World, as his wealth; meeting the humble Saints, he merges in the Lord. ||4||1||
