INSIDE This Issue

Can’t Help It

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

This has been quite the year.

A stint in the hospital, the first time I’ve ever been that sick. Shortly thereafter, the birth of my son, Grayson, and the joy of watching him grow and change so much in just a short span of time. Through everything, that message of Colossians 3 remains etched in my mind.

Experiences like those will impact personal perspective. Lying in a hospital bed while doctors and nurses poke and prod for days with no answers creates frustration the likes of which I’d never experienced. I expected to go in, get a diagnosis, get treated, and go home. To this day, I still don’t know what in the world happened or what was wrong, and I won’t. But I’m thankful.

I’m thankful that my health is returning. I’m thankful to those same doctors and nurses. I’m thankful for the family and friends who continued to pray, call and write with encouraging words, and continue to support me. I’m thankful for a loving wife who stuck by me every single day in the midst of being in her last trimester of pregnancy. When counting all these things, I’m most thankful to a loving God who provided these things in my life.

I can’t help it.

In the summer, when my son entered into this world and I heard his cry for the first time, I was thankful. When finally alone in that hospital room together, tears flowing from the overwhelming joy at this new life that had become part of our family, I was thankful. For every day, every chance to hold Grayson, play with him, give him a bath, carry him to his crib at night when he’s asleep, I am and will forever be thankful.

How could I be anything but thankful?

When reflecting on the opportunities God has given me to experience joy in my life, I’m thankful.

I can’t help it.

Scripture reminds us, in all things, in all circumstances, to be thankful. As the Spirit of Christ dwells within us, reminding us every day is a fresh opportunity to experience God’s handiwork in life, when confronted with the blessings of God, the natural response is gratitude. In this season of thankfulness, as we recount the many ways God has provided continued blessings in life, whatever we do, we do in thankfulness to God, because when we’re truly aware of what God has done, how could we be anything but thankful? It’s the natural response.

And we can’t help it.

Happy Thanksgiving.

T-shirts are coming! Youth T’s are on their way. Be on the look-out for them soon. A big thanks to all those who helped with the lock-in. It was great to see some new faces out and to spend time together. Christmas is fast approaching and we will be submitting our articles for the advent devotional. Perhaps it is a memory from Christmas past or a hope for Christmas future. You might share what Jesus means to you. Whatever motivates and inspires you should be something worth sharing. Start thinking about

yours today. Sunday, November 2 – The youth will be purchasing items to put into Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Come prepared to share in the joy of giving as we look to give back to those in need. Sunday, November 9 – We will go to Ken’s Korny Corn Maze. The cost for admission is $12. We will meet in the youth room after church to eat together. Lunch will be provided. We will leave after we eat lunch together and return at 5:30PM. All ages are welcome. (Ages 3-5 $6 admis-

sion) Come out to join us! Sunday, November 16 – Lecrae concert. We will meet at the church at 3:30PM to go eat before we attend the concert. Admission is already covered for youth. Friends should bring $25 for ad-mission. Bring money to eat ($10 at most) and money if you want souvenirs. It should be a great time together.

A Family Prayer

Lord, behold our family here assembled. We thank you for this place in which we dwell for the love that unites us, for the peace accorded us this day, for the hope with which we expect the morrow, for the work, the health, the food, and bright skies that make our lives delightful for our friends in all parts of the earth. Amen
