JUSTIFICATION
Introduction
A. Six key Bible words about
Salvation• Justification• Propitiation• Redemption• Reconciliation• Regeneration• Adoption
B. Why are we studying them?
1. Most evangelical
Christians don’t understand
them.
2. Untaught believers face
grave temptations.
3. Sound teaching
produces strong Christians.
C. Justification is the first
term.
I. The Definition of Justification
NOT making excuses to
others for misbehavior (self-
justification)
BUT to be declared
righteous or not guilty by God.
II. The Means
of Justification
A. By God’s grace:
unmerited favor.
(Rom. 3:24)
B. Through faith
in Christ. (Ephe. 2:8-9)
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith
—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that
no one can boast.”(Ephesians 2:8-9)
C. On the basis of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross. (Romans 3:25)
God presented Christ as a sacrifice of
atonement, through the shedding of his
blood—to be received by faith.
Rom. 3:25
D. Not based on any
human effort. (Rom. 3:28)
For we maintain that a person
is justified by faith apart from the
works of the Law.(Rom. 3:28)
III. The Effects
of Justification
A. You are completely forgiven. (Col. 2:13)
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our
sins.(Colossians 2:13)
You have a new righteousness.
(2 Cor. 5:21)
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we
might become the righteousness of
God.2 Corinthians
5:21
You are declared not
guilty and free from
condemnation. (Rom. 8:1)
There is no condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus.Romans 8:1
“Who will bring any charge against those God has chosen? It
is God who justifies.”(Romans 8:33)
“Who is he that condemns? Christ
Jesus, who died- more than that, who was
raised to life-is at the right hand of God, and
is also interceding for us.”
Romans 8:34
