WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

1. If you toy with the person of Christ, you run the risk of idolatry - worshipping a God in your image. 

2. If you toy with the person of Christ, you run the risk of toying with the work of Christ. (more on that in the course of the lesson)

THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSESD. "Thus Jesus had an existence in heaven before coming to the earth. But was it as one of the persons in an almighty, eternal triune Godhead? NO, for the Bible plainly states that in his prehuman existence, Jesus was a created spirit being just as angels were spirit beings created by God. B. Jesus was the product of a physical relationship between the Father and the then-Virgin Mary - not the product of the Holy Spirit: "When the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus, the Father had begotten him in his own likeness. He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. And who was the Father?...

THE MORMONS…He is the first of the human family; and when he took a tabernacle [body], it was begotten by his Father in heaven, after the same manner as the tabernacles of Cain, Abel and the rest of the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve...Jesus, our elder brother, was begotten in the flesh by the same character that was in the Garden of Eden, and who is our Father in Heaven (Journal of Discourses, 1:50-51)

ISLAM

ISLAMA. Jesus is one of the many prophets of Allah:

Surah 4:171: O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers…

… And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

A. Jesus is one of the many prophets of Allah:Surah 43:59: Jesus was not but a servant

upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.

ISLAMB. Jesus Christ did not atone for anyone's sins - he didn't die, fullstop:

Surah 4:157: And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.

APOLLINARIANISMJesus had a human

body but not a human mind or spirit

His mind and spirit were from the divine nature of the Son of God

EUTCHYIANISM

Jesus did not have two natures in one person - which we'll come to next week

No, Jesus had a super-nature - a little human and a lot of divine

NESTORIANISMJesus was not one

person with two natures

Jesus' two natures were so separate that you can say two personalities were at work
