Grace & Peace• Can be multiplied to you… 2 Peter 1:1-4

– Because you have obtained the like precious faith by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

– …In the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

– In this knowledge He supplies us with all that pertains to life and godliness, by which also He has called us by glory and virtue

– We need then to learn and do whatever His word reveals to us so we may obtain and partake of all these great things. Mt. 28:20

We Must Add To Grow

• In 2 Pet. 3:18 We’re taught to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

• 2 Pet. 1:5 We’re to give all diligence to add to our faith that we may be assured of our call and election, also that we may never stumble, and ultimately that we may enter heaven. vv. 10-11

• So how can we grow in grace and knowledge?

To Grow You Must…• Add to your faith virtue! 2 Pet. 1:5

– Virtue is “moral excellence, to do what one has to as if from inclination – likened to courage which is the quality of being fearless.”

– A virtuous person stands up for what is right regardless of the consequences. 1 Cor. 16:13

• Add to your virtue, knowledge!– We must desire (thirst for) God’s Word so we

may grow by it. 1 Pet. 2:2– It will cause growth. 2 Pet. 3:18– It will save us. John 8:32

To Grow You Must…

• Add to your knowledge self-control! – Defined:“the virtue of one who masters his

desires and passions, especially his sensual appetites” Thayer 2 Pet. 1:6

– A word picture is worth a thousand words. 1 Cor. 6:12

– Self-control is a characteristic of the true Christian’s life. Titus 1:8; 1 Cor. 9:27

– It is also a fruit of the Spirit. Gal. 5:23

To Grow You Must…

• Add to your self-control perseverance! v.6– Cheerful endurance. Strong’s– In the NT the characteristic of a man who is not

swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings. Thayer

– We must have this type of patience! Rom. 12:12– Jesus is our perfect example. 1 Pet. 2:21-23– Remember this in our doing good. Gal. 6:9– Keep on keeping on in our faith journey!

To Grow You Must…

• Add to your perseverance godliness! v.6– Means God-likeness. We’re to be seen

influencing others for good and doing good things in our life of service for God. Mt. 5:16

– We are suppose to deny ungodliness and live godly! Titus 2:12

– We need to be working at this 1 Tim. 4:7 and looking for the judgment 2 Pet. 3:11.

– Godliness is very profitable and prepares us for the life to come. 1 Tim. 4:8

To Grow You Must…• Add to your godliness brotherly kindness!

– The cause is love, the effect is kindness. 2 Pet. 1:7– Christians need to have this special affection

toward one another. Eph. 4:32– “…Love the brotherhood” 1 Pet. 2:17

• Add to your brotherly kindness Love! – Love is the prompting principle which seeks the

“goodwill” of others. It prompts you to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Mt. 7:12

– It is the greatest because it never fails! 1 Cor.13:13

If These Things Are Yours & Abound…

• What things? Faith, Virtue, Knowledge, Self-control, Perseverance, Godliness, Brotherly kindness, and Love!

• 2 Pet. 1:8 Then …You will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ!– If these are yours you also will have growth

in grace which comes multiplied through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. v.2

In Jesus We Have Grace!Eph. 1:7

• Get into Christ where all spiritual blessings are found! Eph. 1:3

How does one get into Jesus? 2 Tim. 2:10• Hear Him. Rom. 10:17• Believe Him. Jn. 8:24• Repent or perish. Lk. 13:3; Acts 2:38• Confess Him. Acts 8:37; Rom. 10:10• Baptism into Christ. Gal. 3:27; Acts 22:16
