Good Deeds and Rewards

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.(2:177)

The PrayerNarrated Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari: Once a man said to Allah’s Apostle “O Allah’s Apostle! I may not attend the (compulsory congregational) prayer because so and so (the Imam) prolongs the prayer when he leads us for it. The narrator added: “I never saw the Prophet more furious in giving advice than he was on that day. The Prophet said, “O people! Some of you make others dislike good deeds (the prayers). So whoever leads the people in prayer should shorten it because among them there are the sick the weak and the needy (having some jobs to do).”  Bukhari  (Book #3, Hadith #90)

To feed the poor

Greet those you know or do not know

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr: A man asked the Prophet , “What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?” The Prophet replied, ‘To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know (See Hadith No. 27).  (Book #2, Hadith #11)

To give time for debts- be easy on the rich and give

time to the poor

Narrated Hudhaifa: The Prophet said, “Before your time the angels received the soul of a man and asked him, ‘Did you do any good deeds (in your life)?’ He replied, ‘I used to order my employees to grant time to the rich person to pay his debts at his convenience.’ So Allah said to the angels; “Excuse him.” Rabi said that (the dead man said), ‘I used to be easy to the rich and grant time to the poor.‘ Or, in another narration, ‘grant time to the well-off and forgive the needy,’ or, ‘accept from the well-off and forgive the needy.’  Bukhari  (Book #34, Hadith#291)

Replying to the sneezer, removing harmful things out of the way

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr: That Allah’s Apostle said, “There are

forty virtuous deeds and the best of them is the Maniha of a she-

goat, and anyone who does one of these virtuous deeds hoping for

Allah’s reward with firm confidence that he will get it, then Allah will

make him enter Paradise because of Hassan (a sub-narrator) said,

“We tried to count those good deeds below the

Maniha; we mentioned replying to the sneezer, removing

harmful things from the road, etc., but we failed to count even

fifteen.”   Bukhari (Book #47, Hadith #800)

But do good deeds within your capacity and regularly

Multiple rewards

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “If any one of you improve (follows strictly) his Islamic religion then his good deeds will be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and a bad deed will be recorded as it is.” Bukhari (Book #2, Hadith #40)

Narrated Hakim bin Hizam: I said to Allah’s Apostle, “Before embracing Islam I used to do good deeds like giving in charity, slave-manumitting, and the keeping of good relations with Kith and kin. Shall I be rewarded for those deeds?” The Prophet replied, “You became Muslim with all those good deeds (Without losing their reward).” Bukhari   (Book #24, Hadith #517)

Narrated Abu Burda: from his father from his hat the Prophet said, “Every Muslim has to give in charity.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Prophet! If someone has nothing to give, what will he do?” He said, “He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns).” The people further asked, “If he cannot find even that?” He replied, “He should help the needy who appeal for help.” Then the people asked, “If he cannot do that?” He replied, “Then he should perform good deeds and keep away from evil deeds and this will be regarded as charitable deeds.”   Bukhari (Book #24, Hadith #524)
