The beauty is we can learn contentment. The difficulty is that it is a lifelong lesson that requires we first do some unlearning.

Philippians 4:10-11
I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

Philippians 4:12-13
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:17-18

We must unlearn that life is about me to learn that it is all about GOD.
Learning contentment requires we first do some UNLEARNING
Contentment is not dependent on the GIFT, or in our case what we have.
“If I am not SATISFIED with what I have, I will never be satisfied with what I want” (K.W. Osbeck)
“[Contentment] is not a passive acceptance of the status quo, but the positive assurance that God has supplied one’s needs, and the consequent release from unnecessary desire” (J.C. Connell)
To learn contentment we must unlearn that “I’ll be happy if I only have MORE.
True contentment TRANSCENDS our circumstances.
To learn contentment we must unlearn that “I’ll be happy if only my CIRCUMSTANCES were different.
Along with the right people will be the DIFFICULTpeople.
To learn contentment we must unlearn that “I’ll be happy if only there were different PEOPLE in my life.
Understood properly Paul declares that he can FACEeverything through Christ.
The secret to contentment is DEPENDENCE on Christ.
