How we honor our dead.
We bury our dead We pray for close to two weeks; we pray a lot We put together an altar and put their picture and
pray more We have traditional meals with the entire family any
food, except pork meat. People with open cuts or women that just had a baby cannot be part of the death ritual.
At 40 days after death we pray and get together with the family and go to the cemetery to take flowers and candles; we do the same a year after the death.
We believe that when you die you go to another life—your spirit continues living
Conclusion… Coming from two different cultures can be very
confusing and difficult because of all the rules. I understand that in my culture we do things, not
because we’re going to get something, but because we are part of a family and we all work together.
I understand why we eat the foods we do and when we do in my Oaxacan culture.
I still have more questions about my culture on the things I don’t understand, but I will continue learning about my culture the Oaxacan and American.
I like to be part of two cultures because I get to learn a lot of things.
Thank you for waching.
