To bless someone is to empower that person to prosper.
Prosper: Not just in the realm of finance. It means to thrive, to do well, to
succeed.
To empower to prosper means to set the stage for that person to do well, thrive,
succeed in all areas of life (Craig Hill)
How God imparts blessing‘Laying on of hands’
Waiting on God in ‘soaking’ prayer
1. ‘Laying on of hands’ is a basic teachingHebrews 6:1-5 (NIV)
Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to
maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of
the dead, and eternal judgment.
2. ‘Laying on of hands’ is how
blessing is impartedDeuteronomy 34:9 (NIV)
Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD
had commanded Moses.
3. Holy Spirit is imparted by ‘laying on of hands’
Acts 8:14-17 (NIV) 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands
on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 19:6-7 (NIV) 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke
in tongues and prophesied.
4. Early believers never WENT; they were SENT!
Acts 6:6 (NIV) They presented these men to the apostles, who
prayed and laid their hands on them.
Acts 13:1-3 (NIV) In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon …. Lucius …., Manaen … and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me
Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 So after they had fasted
and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
5. Jesus released blessing by ‘laying on of hands’
Matthew 19:13-15 (NIV) Then little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." 15 When He had placed His hands on
them, He went on from there.
Mark 10:16 (NIV) And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on
them and blessed them.
6. Healing is released by ‘laying on of hands’
Mark 5:23 (NIV) He pleaded earnestly with him, "My little
daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and
live.“
Mark 16:18 (NIV) …they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick
people, and they will get well.“
Acts 28:8 (NIV) His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever
and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.
Acts 9:17-19 (NIV) Then Ananias went to the house and entered it.
Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road
as you were coming here, has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again.
WAITING ON GOD ‘SOAKING’ PRAYER
1. Soak in the presence and wait in God.
Numbers 11:16-17 (NIV) The LORD said to Moses: "Bring me
seventy of Israel's elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the Tent of
Meeting, that they may stand there with you. 17 I will come down and speak with
you there, and I will take of the Spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them.”
2. Waiting releases God’s power from heavenActs 2:1-4 (NIV)
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2 Suddenly a sound like
the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they
were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to
rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
3. Possible to receive an anointing similar to another
person by waiting. 2 Kings 2:9-15 (NIV)
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from
you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied. 10 "You have asked a difficult
thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours - otherwise not."….
15 The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, "The spirit of Elijah is resting
on Elisha." And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
4. Spiritual gifts are imparted!
Romans 1:11-12 (NIV) I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you
strong - 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's
faith.
