He ascended into Heaven He is seated at the right

hand of the Father

Page 2: Apostles' Creed Session Eleven -He Ascended into Heaven

The Apostles’ CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,  he is seated at the right hand of the Father,  and he will come again to judge the living and the

dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit,  the holy catholic church,  the communion of saints,  the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,  and the life everlasting. AMEN.

40 days passed...and then...

6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

Acts 1:6-9

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Romans 8:34

He ascended into Heaven

• A literal rising?– No.– The sky is the clearest picture of eternity we

have. – His withdraw had to take place somehow. • Left, right, just plain disappear, fire, etc.

He ascended into Heaven

• God the Father lives in heaven. Matthew 23:9• God looks down on us from heaven and watches Psalm 14:2• And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates

made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass. Rev. 21:21

• the final destination for believers will be a new heaven and a new earth 2 Peter 3:13

• After the new heaven and new earth are created, all mankind will worship the Lord there Isaiah 66:22-23

• Ultimately, the final destination for believers will be a new heaven and a new earth 2 Peter 3:13

He is seated at the right hand of the Father

• A position of POWER, HONOR, AUTHORITY

• The message of the ascension is JESUS CHRIST (THE SAVIOR MESSIAH) REIGNS!– God’s war with Satin (or Satan) is like a chess

game in which the result is certain but the loosing player hasn’t given up.

Jesus departs, but we are not left alone.

• “I am with you always.” Matt. 28:20

• “I will send the Spirit, the Comforter, who will guide you into all truth.” John 14

• God reigns, God is with us, but... God gives us lots of freedom to make our own choices, follow the desires of our hearts, make our own way.
