An Examination of Romans 12

Objective: To learn what it means to be a living sacrifice and the type of behavior we are to have toward one another.

Romans 12:1-2 Present our bodies as a living sacrifice. “A newness of life.” Spiritual transformation begins in the mind and

heart. Am I standing out? It’s a question of commitment. Everything we do should be about Jesus.

Romans 12:3-8 First step in changing behavior is self-

observation. We are forgiven sinners doing the best we can

to grow in Christ. The church is a unified body, but the members

have different functions. We have a responsibility to use each one of the

gifts we’ve been given. We are to do all the good we can, one to

another, and for the common benefit.

Romans 12:9-16 Different kinds of love with different meanings. Showing preference is proof of the gospel—our love

for each other. We are to serve eagerly and in earnest. As we meet the needs of our fellow Christians, we

will also have opportunities to serve strangers. Because we are a body, when one hurts, everyone

feels the pain. When one is joyful, we all rejoice. Our duty to one another summed up—love.

Romans 12:17-21 Christians are to be people of integrity. The Christian’s aim is to live peaceably. However,

there are times when peace is not within our control. We are not to seek personal revenge, but let God do

the punishing. Vengeance is God’s job. God’s people know full well that this world is not

their home. There is a place prepared where persecution, cursing and evil do not happen.

We can all find the greatness that God has to offer in His church and in this church.
