There is the type of education we get in school and there are life lessons we
learn along the way. Both are important. The only problem is that life moves us far along before we figure out what's going on and the wisdom we hope to
have gained is sometimes late in coming.
Following are 16 important lessons that we don’t usually learn
in the classroom. Always remember to
keep these in your back pocket
for years to come.
Lesson 1: Be kind. You never know
what battle others may be fighting.
Don’t add to their burden.
Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.
Lesson 2: Go out of your way to
makesomeone’s day better. You will
both benefit.
Lesson 3: Have compassion for everyone, no
matter how terrible their actions seem.
Lesson 4: Learn to forgive others. It
doesn’t mean you’re saying that what was done to you was ok, but it frees you from
the negative emotions that create
disease within the mind, body and
spirit.
Lesson 5: Your legacy is the way you make others feel, and the impressions
you leave them with.
Lesson 6: Bad things do happen to good people. Find the lessons buried
deep within the suffering. They're there.
Lesson 7: Life is a marathon, not a race. This lesson may sound cliché, but most of us try to sprint through
life whether we realize it or not. Concentrate on fulfilling your own
personal goals in the timeline that is right for you.
Lesson 8: Learn to enjoy the whole process. We can
become so focused on the end result, that we missthe little miracles that happen along the way.
Lesson 9: Nurture your relationships. At the end of your life you’re never going to say, “I wish I’d spent more time working.” But
you will say, “I wish I told them that I love
themmore often.”
Lesson 10: Be grateful.
Not just for the big
things in your life. Be
grateful
for everything.
Lesson 11: Treat others as you wish
to be treated. Never do
something to someone else that
you would not want done to
someone you love or yourself.
Lesson 12: Make friends with yourself. Treat yourself like
you would treat someone you cherish. We spend far too
much time being our own
worst enemies.
Lesson 13: Don’t try to change people. Inspire them with
your actions.
Lesson 14: Don’t turn down an opportunity just
because you're afraid. Use fear as a compass. Let it guide you in the
direction that will produce the most personal growth.
Lesson 15:Change is
good. It stretches your limits. And as
your limits grow, so do you.
Lesson 16: Be in this moment.
The past is over. The future
doesn’t exist yet. Plan for
the future, but don’t spend all of your mental
energy and time there or you'll miss
what's happening now.
“The difference
between school and
life? In
school, you're
taught a lesson and
then given a test. In
life, you're given a
test that te
aches you
a lesson.“
Now we need to ask ourselves the
question…What about me? What have I learned outside
the classroom?
