1 Samuel 1:3, DISCOVERY AT SHILO • DISCOVERY AT SHILO - SHOWS IT WAS SACKED BY THE PHILISTINES, By

Gil Ronen (Arutz Sheva News)• “A new archeological find at ancient Shilo fits in with the Biblical

narrative regarding the war at Even Ha'ezer, and could confirm scholars' conjectures as to how Shilo was destroyed.

• The First Book of Samuel does not say when and how Shilo, which served as the Israelite capital for 369 years, was destroyed. The latest archeological find at the Shilo site - a broken vase and remains of ashes from a fire - indicate large scale destruction. The remains are from the same period in which the War of Even Ha'ezer against the Philistines was waged.

• Israel suffered a crushing defeat in that war, which is believed to have been waged near present-day Afek. The two sons of Eli the High Priest were killed, and Eli himself died upon hearing the news. Worst of all, the Holy Ark, which the Israelites had brought to the battleground, was taken by the Philistines.

• Archeologists and scholars now have more evidence to back the assumption that after defeating the Israelites at Even Ha'ezer, the Philistines advanced upon Shilo and sacked it.

• Other Biblical passages, in Psalms and Jeremiah, confirm that Shilo was destroyed by Philistines.”

Genesis 49:10...Until Shiloh comes• Ancient Shiloh May Have Burned• Recent archaeological findings in Samaria, Israel shed

light on the incomplete story of the destruction of Shiloh, the ancient capital of Israel. An uncovered broken clay pitcher lying in a layer of reddish ashes was discovered near the ancient site where the Mishkan, the Tabernacle, was placed during the Judges period. Shiloh essentially served as Israel's capital in the 13th century BC and as the spiritual center in Israel for 369 years until its destruction. The new archaeological finding indicates that a devastating fire occurred on the site. The dating of the clay pitcher, 1050 BCE, correlates with the dating of the events depicted in Book of Samuel.- Algemeiner, Koinonia House Inc.

1 Samuel 1:3, Who Is The LORD Sabbaoth, The LORD Of Hosts?

• NAU 1 Samuel 1:3 Now this man would go up from his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the LORD there.

• This phrase (1st use here) is used extensively by Malachi (24 X’s), Isaiah (49 X’s), Zechariah (53 X’s), and Jeremiah (71 X’s).

• …( tsabaצבא <06635>

• Meaning: army, war, warfare7

WHO IS THE LORD SABBAOTH?In Hebrew Bible by Ewelina Drela

• “In a Christian hymn “A Mighty Fortress is our God”, in still comprehensible English, the translator of the original German version used this very wording: “Lord Sabaoth, His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle.”

• I once attended a church service where the worshipers were told not to be confused – the Lord Sabaoth simply referred to the Lord of the Sabbath! Such statement is simply not accurate as we will see.

• In Isaiah 6 we read that the great prophet heard angels call out to each other: “Holy, Holy, Holy is Adodai Tsvaot!” ( קדושקדוש

צבאותיהוה ). The last two words make up a phrase “Adonai Tsvaot” – “Lord God Almighty, the Lord of Hosts or Lord Sabbaoth” as it is sometimes translated. The very last word is “tsvaot” (צבאות). The word “tsava” (צבא) means “army” and together with the 8

WHO IS THE LORD SABBAOTH?In Hebrew Bible by Ewelina Drela

• plural feminine ending “ot” (ות) we get “of the armies.” More literal translation, therefore, is “Lord of the armies”.

• Nothing illustrates this use better than the example of Joshua meeting the ultimate Messenger of the LORD in Joshua 5. When Joshua first saw this Great Warrior, he inquired if he was for “them” or for their enemies. The answer he got was simply – no. Not letting Joshua wonder too long the Heavenly Warrior added, “for I have come as the Commander of the Army of the LORD.”

• Israel’s God is not satisfied with simply assisting Israel’s army (fighting on her side). He will lead Israel into battle Himself. He is the Lord Sabbaoth – the Lord of Israel’s Armies.”

• Jerusalem Inspiration, “At the beginning of the Book of Samuel, Chana is heartbroken that she has no children, and goes to the Tabernacle in Shiloh to pray. The Tabernacle stood in Shiloh for 369 years before it was moved to the building of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. During that time it served as the central point for Jewish service to God. Unfortunately, many of the Children of Israel ignored it. However, Chana and her husband Elkana, who were very pious people, made pilgrimages there three times yearly. While praying in the Sanctuary, Chana poured out her soul as she wept and beseeched God to make her fertile, and God heard her heartfelt prayers and answered them. She dedicated her son, the prophet Samuel, to the Lord in thanksgiving. Established in 1978, modern-day Shiloh is a thriving Jewish community, near where the Tabernacle stood and where Chana prayed for a child. It is also a center of healing for children who are victims of terror. God continues to hear the prayers of His children in Shiloh.”

• Chuck Swindoll, “Joy is a choice. It's a matter of attitude that stems from one's confidence in God- that He is at work, that He is in full control, that He is in the midst of whatever has happened, is happening and will happen. Either we fix our minds on that and determine to laugh again, or we wail and whine our way through life. We determine which way we will go.”

A Negative sign To You

• NAU Acts 5:9 Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out as well." 10 And she fell immediately at his feet, and breathed her last… 11 And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all who heard of these things. 12 And at the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people… 13 But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, the people held them in high esteem.

1 Samuel 3:10, God Spoke To Him• 1 Samuel 3:10 Then the LORD came and stood

and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for Your servant is listening."

• Deborah Hough tells, “My 3-year-old son, Ian, enjoys the Bible story about Samuel hearing God's voice at night. One evening after reading the story to Ian, I asked him if God had ever spoken to him. To my surprise, he answered, “Yes." "What did God say to you?" I asked. Ian thought and then said in his deepest voice,

• "Ian! Go to bed!"• That explained why Ian settles down more quickly

when I'm outside his room and tell him to go to bed.”

• Like a talisman or lucky charm?• The word “ark” is used more in 1 Samuel than

any other book of the Bible. 40/228 uses. With 2 Samuel it’s 61/228, or 26%, more than one fourth of all the uses.

1 Samuel 4:3-7:2, Ark of the Covenant, New translation of Hebrew text reveals legend of Ark of the Covenant

• foxnews.com/science New translation of Hebrew text reveals legend of Ark of the Covenant• A newly translated Hebrew tells a tale claiming to reveal where treasures from King Solomon's temple were hidden and discusses the fate of the Ark of the Covenant itself.• But unlike the Indiana Jones movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark," the text leaves the exact location of the Ark unclear and states that it, and the other treasures, "shall not be revealed until the

day of the coming of the Messiah son of David " putting it out of reach of any would-be treasure seeker. But don't put on your Indiana Jones costume just yet; the text's translator says the book is likely just early Jewish folklore.

• King Solomon's Temple, also called the First Temple, was plundered and torched by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II in the sixth century B.C., according to the Hebrew Bible. The Ark of the Covenant is a chest that, when originally built, was said to have held tablets containing the 10 commandments. It was housed in Solomon's Temple, a place that contained many different treasures. [Religious Mysteries: 8 Alleged Relics of Jesus]

• The newly translated text, called "Treatise of the Vessels" (Massekhet Kelim in Hebrew), says the "treasures were concealed by a number of Levites and prophets," writes James Davila, a professor at the University of St. Andrews, in an article in the book "Old Testament Pseudepigrapha More Noncanonical Scriptures Volume 1" (William B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 2013).

• "Some of these (treasures) were hidden in various locations in the Land of Israel and in Babylonia, while others were delivered into the hands of the angels Shamshiel, Michael, Gabriel and perhaps Sariel " writes Davila in his article.

• The treatise is similar in some ways to the metallic "Copper Scroll," one of the Dead Sea Scrolls found near the site of Qumran in the West Bank. The Copper Scroll also discusses the location of hidden treasure, although not from Solomon's Temple.

• The treatise describes the treasures in an imaginative way. One part refers to "seventy-seven tables of gold, and their gold was from the walls of the Garden of Eden that was revealed to Solomon, and they radiated like the radiance of the sun and moon, which radiate at the height of the world."

• The oldest confirmed example of the treatise, which survives to present day, is from a book published in Amsterdam in 1648 called "Emek Halachah." In 1876, a scholar named Adolph Jellinek published another copy of the text, which was virtually identical to the 1648 version. Davila is the first to translate the text fully into English.

• A story of legendsThe writer of the text likely was not trying to convey factual locations of the hidden treasures of Solomon's Temple, but rather was writing a work of fiction, based on different legends, Davila told LiveScience. [In Photos: Amazing Ruins of the Ancient World]

• "The writer draws on traditional methods of scriptural exegesis [interpretation] to deduce where the treasures might have been hidden, but I think the writer was approaching the story as a piece of entertaining fiction, not any kind of real guide for finding the lost Temple treasures," he wrote in the email.

• The structure of the story is confusing. In the prologue it states that Shimmur the Levite (he doesn't appear to be a biblical figure) and his companions hid the treasures, "but later on the text mentions the treasures being in the keeping of or hidden by Shamshiel and other angels," Davila said. "I suspect the author collected various legends without too much concern about making them consistent."

• Similarities to the Copper ScrollThe Copper Scroll, which dates back around 1,900 years, and is made of copper, shows several "striking parallels" with the newly translated treatise, Davila said.

• The treatise says that the treasures from Solomon's Temple were recorded "on a tablet of bronze," a metal like the Copper Scroll. Additionally, among other similarities, the Treatise of the Vessels and Copper Scroll both refer to "vessels" or "implements," including examples made of gold and silver.

• These similarities could be a coincidence or part of a tradition of recording important information on metal.• "My guess is that whoever wrote the Treatise of Vessels came up with the same idea [of writing a treasure list on metal] coincidentally on their own, although it is not unthinkable that the

writer knew of some ancient tradition or custom about inscribing important information on metal," wrote Davila in the email, noting that metal is a more durable material than parchment or papyrus.

• An ongoing storyThe study of the treatise is ongoing, and discoveries continue to be made. For instance, in the mid-20th century a copy of it (with some variations) was discovered and recorded in Beirut, Lebanon, at the end of a series of inscribed plates that record the Book of Ezekiel.

• Those plates are now at the Yad Ben Zvi Institute in Israel, although the plates containing the treatise itself are now missing. Recent research has revealed, however, these plates were created in Syria at the turn of the 20th century, about 100 years ago, suggesting the treatise was being told in an elaborate way up until relatively modern times.
