The word disciple is a translation of the Greek word mathetes. The ways this word can be translated are pupil, learner, apprentice, or follower.
These meanings give us our basic understanding of the word “disciple”. A disciple is one who learns from another.

A disciple was not only a learner, but someone who had a close relationship with the teacher and was in continual fellowship with him. They experience life together and through their interaction the disciple was changed and became like his master.
