Character limitation problems (Spanish)
Don’t complain about problems…
Find solutions! ;)
Test, test and test your translations again to improve them.Example: use lateral thinking to center text and improve the layout
newsitem_constructX_1 -> full titlenewsitem_constructX_2 -> short title
newsitem_construct14_2
newsitem_construct14_1
After translating, check for limitations of short titles.Select column A in Excel and then click Order and Filter -> Filter
Click the arrow on the right of the first colum, write newsitem_construct in the box filter and press Enter
Workaround to check limitations in short titles (not 100% accurate, but close)
1. Change the font to Courier New
2. Use text wrap
3. Change the columnwidth until 11 chars fit
4. Aim at 4 lines maxand 10-11 chars per line to avoid textoverflows
5. Remember thisformat will be lostafter saving, so savechanges in Trados ororiginal CSV!
Text wrap
If you use Trados Studio, import the CSV and click File types
1. Select CSV files > Format2. Select Tab as delimiter3. Select original and
translation columns(2 and 3)
4. Exclude the first linein the file (header)

Two more tips1. Here’s a useful guide to translate CSV files in memoQ:

2. It’s a good idea to have a look at the Spanish translation of Papers, Please: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EovlUrlaOus(Republia Times is a prequel of this game)
