SLOW COMPUTER The first thing you want to do when trying to fix a slow computer is to verify that your computer is what’s actually causing the problem. If a video you’re trying to stream is constantly buffering or a website is taking too long to load, it’s most likely your internet connection that’s the problem. Head over to speedtest.net to find out if your internet connection is the source of the issue.

If the problem is actually your computer, you’ll want to see how much available disk space you have on your hard drive. Running a computer that is low on available hard drive space significantly slows down your PC.

Your operating system needs room to make files while you’re using your computer. Not having enough room on your computer causes your computer’s performance to decrease.

Make some room on your computer by deleting unnecessary files and removing any unneeded startup applications.

DOWNLOADS ARE TAKING TOO LONG

If you’re having trouble with slow download speeds, it’s almost always due to your internet connection. Speedtest.net is a great tool for testing your download and upload speeds. As a rule of thumb your speeds should be at least half of what your internet service provider advertises.

If your speeds are up to par, make sure you aren’t running any programs in the background that are slowing you down. Many programs like torrent software run in the background of your system and stay tucked away in your computers system tray – not the taskbar.

You’ll also want to update your computer’s network hardware. Download any new drivers for your hardware from the manufacturer’s website.

Reset your routers and modems by pressing the reset buttons on all of your devices. If all else fails, contact your internet service provider for further assistance.

YOU KEEP GETTING POP-UP ADS

If you’re getting pop-up ads on your desktop, you’ve probably installed some form of adware without knowing it. Adware is a computer program that displays ads on your computer.

Eliminating adware isn’t always an easy task. There are a lot of different tools that promise to clean your system. However, It’s tough to find the right tool. Some of them work well while others aren’t worth using.

Run a scan with a good antivirus software to find and remove adware. If the software doesn’t find and delete the adware, move on to the next anti-virus program. You’ll want to make sure that you only run one anti-virus software at one time. Running multiple anti-virus software programs will cause them to conflict and this can cause problems for your computer.

No one likes a slow, non-working computer. The best way to protect your computer is to prevent any major malfunctions by routinely cleaning your PC with your operating system’s utility tools and using an excellent anti-virus software to protect your computer from viruses, adware, and malware.
