TARGET AUDIENCEI am aiming my magazine more at teenage girls, so girls aged 13-19.

I am not intentionally aiming it at any class, but middle class girls may be more likely to buy it as they have more disposable money to spend on things such as magazines.

Again, I am not aiming my magazine on a specific ethnicity, I think it is open for any ethnicity to read and enjoy.

My magazine is quite mainstream in it’s style and content as it consists of only Pop music and young people/artists. However, it could be considered niche as it is targeted at a specific age range.

MISE-EN-SCENEI made sure I took my pictures on a white background so I’d have more freedom during editing. I dressed my models in typical girly clothes to try and represent my audience, this links with the Personal Identity aspect of the Uses and Gratifications theory which says that we look for things we can relate to and represent us in the media. I also used models that are the same age as my target audience to try and connect with them more, this links to the Personal Relationship aspect of the Uses and Gratifications theory as it says people use the media to build a relationship with others and to become a part of a particular social group.I made sure their make up was simple yet made them look as flawless as possible as in all the magazine’s I researched all of the celebrities and models pictured in them looked totally flawless.

EDITINGDuring editing I made sure I upped the contrast on all of my photos to make them more vibrant and stand out more to audiences.

I used a variety of different techniques such as extracting and erasing to make my pictures look perfect and to put them on the background I wanted.

I didn’t extract my images on the double page spread however as I liked the effect that was already on it from the lighting set up I used.

I also enhanced their lip colour and whitened their teeth to give them more of a flawless and perfect look. I enhanced the lip colour using the clone stamp and I whitened the teeth using the brush tool.

LAYOUTFor the layout of my magazine I took inspiration mostly from magazines Blender and NME.

My front page and contents page are based around Blender and I took ideas from NME for my double page spread.

Blender has a very clear layout of its front cover. I wanted to try and recreate that as I wanted my magazine to be easy to read as stereotypically teenagers are ‘lazy’. So seeing as my target audience is teenagers I tried to make it easy for them to view.

I decided to include elements

of a gossip/fashion magazine

as well as it mainly being

a music magazine because

when I asked my all girl focus

group they said that

they’d prefer there to be

a bit of interesting gossip and

some fashion in it for it to

be worth their money. I took

inspiration from vibe for this as

they have a fashion section in

their magazine as well as the music.

IMAGEIn all my images I made sure that my models were looking straight at the camera so that there is a direct mode of address with the audience. This is from the Uses and Gratifications theory as it is helping to make a personal relationship between them and the audience.

They are wearing a different outfit on each page to represent fashion which helps tie in with the fact I didn’t want my magazine to be solely music based.

LANGUAGEThe language I have used is simple and resembles the kind of stuff you would see on a gossip magazine, e.g. scandalous, exclusive. I used the typical question and answer interview layout for my double page spread so the language in that is simple and everything is said in a really happy, bubbly way as most interviews with pop stars tend to be.

OVERVIEWThe preferred reading of my magazine is that it is a music magazine but that it also has elements of gossip and fashion magazines in it. I want girls to be drawn to the front cover by the bright pinks and the language and deem it interesting enough to buy.
