BLUES…All music genre’s has their own meaning behind them. In this music genre ‘Blues’ the meaning is about tradition and personal expression.

Blues music contains simple three-cord, progressions because of their simple structures in the music.

Some artists who sing Blues songs are; Bessie Smith, B.B King, Jimmy Reed, Freddie King, Charles Brown and so many more.

CLASSICAL…A lot of people listened to classical back years ago but today it is not as popular as others. It seems to be that classical music was from the Western European formed in churches etc.

Classical can be anything from Opera and the Orchestra to films etc. You can sing to classical music but some songs may just be the orchestra.

Some singers who classical songs are David Garrett, Nigel Kennedy, Janine Jenson, Andréa Bocelli and so many more.

COUNTRY…Just like the Blues, country music is also about tradition. They could be classed as similar because the two genres share near enough the same themes, songs and melodies.

The music came from American Southern folk music. Most people thought the country music was people such as ‘hillbilly's’ being stereotypical when anyone can sing country music.

Country music artists include; Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, Jonny Cash, Tim Mcgraw, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood with more country singers.

ELECTRONIC…This genre was mostly coming in the ‘70s disco/funk’ stage where this was most popular. Its still popular nowadays and we still have some top number 1 hits.

The genre came about in Chicago/New York and soon came to the UK, this type of genre was very popular as it was a new sound that people hadn’t heard before it came out.

Some of the artists were Daft Punk, Aphex Twins, Goldie, Underworld, Skrillex, Fatboy Slim, Mouse on Mars and so many more.

HOLIDAY…Some people might think this isn't classed as genre but other people disagree. This is when songs from, Christmas, Halloween, Easter etc. have songs. These are called as a Holiday genre.

Many artists sing these types of songs, any artist are able to sing a song as there is no certain rhythm like classical music is written.

Artists such as Wizzard, Bing Crosby, Wham, Mariah Carey, Slade, Vince Guaraldi Trio, Band Aid, John Lennon, Yoko Ono and many more.

JAZZ…Jazz is known as America's classical music. Jazz was classed as dance music and was performed by swinging big bands. After time, new music started to appear but Jazz started to depart in different ways into other music such as hard-hitting rhythms etc.

Some of the artists who produced jazz music Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Glenn Miller, Louis Jordan and many more artists.

LATIN… This genre represents a number of different styles from regions/countries from Latin America. This is referred to dance-based music or even pop orientated-music that’s sung in a different language.

This type of genre has their own rhythm with the way the music is created.

Some artists that represent Latin music are Shakira, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Diane Reyes, Marc Anthony and many more artists.

POP/ROCK…I would say that this genre is defiantly the most popular currently as there are many pop and rock artists bringing out new music every week that people are engaging in. Rock represents energy, catchy and rebellion.

Artists who represent this genre are Nirvana, The Beatles, The Who, Queen, Green Day, Elvis Presley, Pink Floyd, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and Foreigner and many more artists.

R&B…R&B is very popular currently as there are a lot of singers who represent this genre. R&B started out small in the 1940s but over time it got more popular with the extending different sounds like R&B soul etc.

RAP…Rap has now become one of the most popular genres as well as pop/rock. This genre spread across worldwide, it started spreading from New York to throughout the whole of America and went on to other countries such as the UK.

REGGAE This is a unique genre that is based in Jamaica. This genre was most common and popular in the 60s. Reggae is such a unique genre and people who represent this in their music are also classed as unique as they have created an authentic piece of media.

One of the many artists that stands out to every is Bob Marley, all of his songs everyone loved and his music still inspires people today. Other artists include Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, The Wallers, Ziggy Marley, Yellowman and many more.
