The colour red could connote danger and anger. However then contrasts with the write back group causes the name “NME” to stand out. The dark colours related to the strong male lead on the front of the magazine. However for the name of the artist on the front cover they have used a pale yellow, even though it’s a light colour it makes the name stand out due to the contrast with the darker colours.

The Masthead

In the title they use “IMPACT” font which makes the title stand out and grabs the buyer’s attention. Also, because the letters are bold it makes the magazine look more powerful and stronger. It is places in the corner of the magazine so it is easy to see. Lastly the fact that magazine use NME as there masthead and not New Music Experience suggest the high status as they can be identified just by the letter NME.

They placed the price at the bottom right of the magazine, this show that they are trying to hide the fact that the magazine is at a high price. This shows us that this magazine if more focused towards middle and higher classed people as they are less likely to look at the price.

Interviews with celebrities may bring about a fan follow. So announcing it on the front cover with brings in more buyers.

Audience

For this magazine I think that the audience that they are most trying to reach is the male audience. This is due to the strong male lead on the front cover; also there are not a lot of female artist’s names on the front cover as it is very male dominated. Also because of the bold writing and contrasting colours it shows a very harsh bold effect which apples to a strong and bold male.

Layout

The main image takes up the whole background and the text is overlapping the image creating a cluttered and collage like layout. As most of the next is on the left hand side it makes the reader read starting from the left hand side.

The main image is of the band Palma violets that are the main band that features in this magazine. This means that a lot of the band followers and fans will buy this magazine to read the information and to see the pictures. The picture is midshot of the band; they are standing behind each other with straight faces. This gives the magazine a more dangerous and mysterious look, making people want to buy the magazine to find out more information. The band members are dressed in unbuttoned shirts and jackets giving the magazine a more chilled out mood.
