HISTORY……….

Alfred Nobel was born on 21 October 1833 in Sweden into a family of engineersHe was a chemist, engineer, and inventorNobel wrote several wills during his lifetime. Nobel's last will specified that his fortune be used to create a series of prizes for those who confer the "greatest benefit on mankind" in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine , literature, and peace.

Alfred Nobel's will stated that 94% of his total assets should be used to establish the Nobel Prizes.

AWARD PROCESS

Nominations

Nomination forms are sent by the Nobel Committee to about 3,000 individuals, usually in September the year before the prizes are awarded.

The nominees are not publicly named, nor are they told that they are being considered for the prize.

All nomination records for a prize are sealed for 50 years from the awarding of the prize

SELECTION

The Nobel Committee then prepares a report reflecting the advice of experts in the relevant fields. 

The institutions meet to choose the laureate or laureates in each field by a majority vote.

A maximum of three laureates and two different works may be selected per award.

AWARD CEREMONY

The Nobel Prizes are presented in Stockholm, Sweden, at the annual Prize Award Ceremony on 10 December, the anniversary of Nobel's death. The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony has been held at the Norwegian Nobel Institute at the auditorium of the University of Oslo and at Oslo City Hall

PRIZES

Medals. The Nobel Prize medals are registered trademarks of

the Nobel Foundation . Each medal features an image of Alfred Nobel in left profile on the obverse .

The weight of each medal varies with the value of gold, but averages about 175 grams for each medal.

DIPLOMASNobel laureates receive a diploma directly

from the hands of the King of Sweden.The diploma contains a picture and text in

Swedish which states the name of the laureate and normally a citation of why they received the prize

AWARD MONEY

The laureates are given a sum of money when they receive their prizes, in the form of a document confirming the amount awarded. The amount of prize money depends upon how much money the Nobel Foundation can award each year

The Academy Awards, or "Oscars", is an annual American awards ceremony hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences(AMPAS) to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements in the United States film industry

HISTORY…….

The first Academy Awards presentation was held on May 16, 1929, at a private dinner function at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with an audience of about 270 people.

Fifteen statuettes were awarded, honoring artists, directors and other participants in the film-making industry of the time, for their works during the 1927–28 period. The ceremony ran for 15 minutes.

NOMINATIONVoters

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a professional honorary organization, maintains a voting membership of 5,783 .

Academy membership is divided into different branches, with each representing a different discipline in film production. Actors constitute the largest voting bloc, numbering 1,311 members (22 percent) of the Academy's composition

online system for Oscar voting is also implemented .

Rules According to official Academy Awards Rules, a

film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31, in Los Angeles County, California and play for seven consecutive days, to qualify .

Film must be feature-length, defined as a minimum of 40 minutes, except for short subject awards, and it must exist either on a 35 mm or 70 mm film print or in 24 frame/s or 48 frame/s progressive scan digital cinema format with a minimum projector resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixels

televised ceremony, most commonly in late February or early March following the relevant calendar year

The invited guests walkup the red carpet in the creations of the most prominent fashion designers of the day. Black tie dress is the most common outfit for men.

HISTORYThe award was named after the invention of Emile

Berliner ,the Gramophone for the awards which were first given for the 1958.

The first award ceremony was held simultaneously in two locations on May 4, 1959 - Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills California, and Park Sheraton Hotel in New York City , and 28 Grammys were awarded.

SELECTION PROCESS1. Screening More than 350 experts in various fields are held to

ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields

VENUE

In the beginning The Grammy Award ceremonies were held in different locations on the same day. New York City and Los Angeles were the host cities. Chicago joined being a host city in 1962, and then Nashville became the fourth location in 1965.In 2004, the Staples Center became the permanent home of the award ceremonies
