What Type of Items Require Climate-Controlled Storage?
(Self Storage Solutions in Sydney | Personal & Business Storage)
First, let’s understand “climate-controlled storage” terminology. Climate-controlled storage is a storage
feature that maintains a unit’s inner temperature between 13-29° Celsius all through the year and
upholds a steady humidity level. In fact, it’s an air conditioner, heater, humidifier and dehumidifier, all in
one. Now, we can take a look at the items that require keeping in a climate-controlled storage unit.
1) Business Inventory and Documents: Business inventory and documents are shielded from potential damage if it is kept in a climate-
controlled unit.
2) Household Appliances: Climate-controlled storage of household appliances like ovens, microwaves, washers and dryers,
dishwashers and refrigerators, can avert rust formation and cracking of the mechanical parts.
3) Electronic Items: Extreme high and low-temperature fluctuations can damage electronic items, both their
interiors and the exteriors; for instance, television sets and computers. So storing them in a
climate-controlled storage keeps them in excellent condition and you would get them back in
the same condition as you left them for storage.
4) Wooden Furniture: If wooden furniture is exposed to humidity, it can make wood to crack and warp. Hence, it is
highly recommended to place all wooden furniture in a climate-controlled storage unit.
5) Artwork: If you have a painting that is not framed, it should be ideally stored at 21-24° C with nearly 50%
humidity. Thus, using a climate-controlled storage unit would be good for storing your valuable
artwork.
6) Musical Instruments:
Climate control is essentially required for musical instruments whether you are storing it for the
short-term or long-term.
7) Clothing:
Certainly, you would not want your clothes to get damaged by mould and mildew. So, storing
them in a climate-controlled storage unit will keep them in excellent condition and fresh.
8) Leather Furniture:
Leather is vulnerable to both cold and heat, and can fade if exposed to excessive moisture. Thus,
leather furniture should be stored in a climate-controlled unit.
9) Special Collections:
The primary reason behind collecting certain items is to shield them for years to come; climate-
controlled units can assist with that preservation. Things such as stamps and photographs to
wine collections all require being stored in a climate-controlled atmosphere to avert damage
caused by humidity and temperature changes.
These are only some of the items that require storing in a climate controlled unit. Actually,
climate-controlled storage is advantageous for almost all self-storage ventures. It can be more
important in certain cases over others; however, a talk with the staff of a self storage facility
will assist you in deciding what type of storage would be right for your need.
