Where is San Antonio del Tequendama?

San Antonio del Tequendama is a municipality located in the Department of Cundinamarca, Colombia, S.A. ~40 miles away from Bogota. Its inhabitants are low income subsistence farmers who have access to abundant but untreated water via aqueduct.

Geographically, its main urban center is located at ~1 mile above sea level, and has an average temperature of 20º C.

The rural community is organized as a public water service entity called Agua Santa, which provides untreated, highly contaminated water ** to enrolled users’ homes.

Agua Santa owns the land where the PWTP will be installed, and have more than 14 miles of water distribution networks.

Sustainability

** Water source comes from the Bogota River. One, if not the most contaminated river in Colombia

Monthly user payments sustain the system, according to water usage registered in their water meters, one per household.
