“Open data is data that can be freely used,
reused and redistributed by anyone –
subject only, at most, to the requirement to
attribute and share alike.”

A platform that brings together
data about the places we live,
work and visit.

Hypothesis 1: closed address files are monopoly
information assets, embedded in huge amounts of public
data, but which cannot be reproduced to a usable quality
Hypothesis 2: it is possible to build & maintain a
sustainable open address database better suited to
today's requirements using modern, collaborative
approaches to data management

You Can Help by Opening an Address

Open Addresses VisionAt Open Addresses, we are bringing together information about the places where we live, work and go about our daily lives. By gathering information provided to us by people about their own addresses, and from open sources on the web, we are creating an open address list for the UK, available to everyone. The open address list will be maintained using modern, collaborative approaches to data management and be published in full, for free as open data.
Addresses are a vital part of the UK’s National Information Infrastructure. Open Addresses will be used by a whole range of individuals and organisations (academics, charities, public sector and private sector).
By having accurate information about addresses, we will all benefit from getting more of the things we want, and less of the things we don’t.
