Visualizing, after all, is a form of planning.
Most people confuse visualization with dreaming. To a certain extent, they are quite similar. They both
are related to what we want. But, from there, the similarities end.
Visualization is controlled dreaming. You are awake. You have total control over what you visualize.
This gives us tremendous advantage over normal dreams which are beyond our conscious control.
However, when someone is said to be daydreaming, they are visualizing. Anytime we consciously see
what we want in our mind, it is called visualizing. It is one of the most underused but powerful success
tools we have.
Importance of visualization is mentioned in every major success program and book. Some extremely
successful books like The Secret and Think & grow rich, are completely based on the principle of
visualization.
Let’s look in detail the benefits of visualization…
Benefits of Visualization
1. Faith: Visualization provides never-ending faith that you will achieve your goal. Lot of people give up
way before reaching their goals. Visualization is the remedy for that. It will maintain your faith that you
will be able to accomplish your goal no matter how hard the circumstances may seem.
2. Clarity: Visualization provides sharp clarity to what we want. Visualization practice cannot be
performed till there is a shred of confusion remaining about our goal. For proper visualization, we need
to have a crystal clear vision of our desires.
3. Sustained Motivation: Lot of people complain that they are lacking motivation, or have trouble
sustaining motivation. Visualization is the answer to that problem. If performed on daily basis, it has
dual effect of both sustaining our motivation and increasing it day by day.
4. Focus: Visualization guides our subconscious mind to our goal. Your RAS (reticular activation
system) gets activated and you start noticing ways to achieve your goals which you have missed
earlier.
5. Flexibility: We can easily change our goals by making adjustments in the visualization process.
6. Grounding: Visualization grounds you to your purpose. It keeps you on the right track, making it
harder for you to lose sight of your goals even when surrounded by chaos.
7. Removes success barriers: We are better prepared to handle success. Eliminates self sabotage.
8. Courage: It fills us with courage and determination to face various obstacles on our path.
Now we have a clear idea of how visualization is beneficial to our success, but how do we visualize?
Process of visualization is quite simple.
Visualization Process: Step by Step
Step 1: Lie down on your bed. Close your eyes.
Step 2: Breathe deeply and calmly.
Step 3: Scan your body completely from feet to head and progressively relax each part, till your whole
body is relaxed.
Step 4: Imagine you have already completed your goals. For example: If your goal is to buy a BMW,
Imagine yourself driving that car.
The key is to visualize in DETAIL. The more detailed your mental picture, the more effectively it will
reach your subconscious mind and the better your real life results will be.
Step 5: Feel the joy of achieving your goal. Example: Feel the joy and sense of accomplishment when
you are driving your BMW.
This is another critical step. Mental pictures attached with emotions have tremendous power. Your
subconscious mind will acknowledge your goal and will start to make you notice things you would have
ignored earlier that will make you reach your goals.
That is it. If you do the above simple process, you would not believe the changes you will feel within a
month. There is a famous quote by one of my mentors – Tony Robbins:
“If you do this once, you will change your day…. If you do this every day, you will change your life…”
